Janet Mattos Obituary
Janet was born to Allen and Alice Tindall and was proud of her attendance at Corralitos School and Watsonville High School (Class of 1958). Janet flew alone to a military base in Formosa/Taiwan after graduation to marry Bob Mattos, and later that same year returned to Watsonville to set up their new home for what became almost 60 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Corralitos, Janet was a lifetime member of Corralitos Community Church. Her hobbies of flower arranging and decorating eventually blossomed into the Unique Boutique in her home and soon expanded to commercial space downtown in Watsonville. She was a renowned cook, providing feasts at her home and often transporting them to share with others. Janet never read sheet music, but was a fine singer, piano player, and ukelelist. Camping was a favorite activity of hers through the 1960's and into retirement, whether along the Arroyo Seco River, on family properties at Tindall Sky Ranch, Lake Tahoe and Yosemite, and local destinations with the River Rigz group, or RV life at Seacliff Beach. She enjoyed get-togethers with sorority sisters from Beta Sigma Phi.
Janet cared for her mother, mother-in-law, and husband Bob in her home through their final days. During her own last days, she often spoke of preparing to take a final trip, saying, "I am ready."
She was well loved by many including her family, and is survived by sister Eloise Wilson of Placerville, son Doug (Kim) Mattos of Prunedale, and son Brian (Lynn) Mattos of Mariposa. She was a loving grandmother to Jason (Danielle) Mattos, Jessica Mattos, Olivia Mattos, and Rachel Mattos, and she was delighted by great-grandchildren Andy and Abby.
A family memorial service will be held in November when Janet's ashes are laid to rest with Bob's at the California Central Coast Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Janet's name to the Corralitos Community Church or your local hospice.
