Jose Vargas Obituary

Jose Raul Vargas died on May 5 in Watsonville. He was 87.

Mr. Vargas was born in Zacapu, Michoacán, Mexico on Sept. 24, 1933 to his parents Juan and Julia Vargas. He was a gregarious man devoted to his family. He was a gardener extraordinaire and an avid reader. He was a passionate San Francisco Giants fan and an All-County Little League Grandfather.

Mr. Vargas is survived by his wife Teresa V. Vargas; his children, Carlos (Patty), Eddie (Monica), Rosa (Jose), Joey (Sylvia) and Arty (DeeDee); and his siblings, Paula Cariaga, Grace Perez, Manuel, Trina Hernandez, Esther Herrera, Mary Ellen, Jane Romero, Robert and Juan. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jesse and Jaime, and his granddaughter, Lydia Elena.

The visitation took place at Ave Maria Memorial Chapel Thursday. Mass will be celebrated today, at St. Patrick's Church at 1pm, with the burial directly after at Valley Public Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Carroll Family of Ave Maria Memorial Chapel.
