Victor Velez Obituary

Victor "Pop" Velez passed away suddenly at his home on June 18, 2021. He was 60 years old. Victor was born on August 2, 1960, in Watsonville, where he lived the majority of his life. He graduated from Watsonville High School in 1978, and three years later met the love of his life.

Victor loved baseball. He coached Pony League, his daughters in Fast Pitch Softball and his son throughout all his baseball years. He made his career working for the City of Watsonville Parks Department for 27 years, all of those years at his beloved Ramsey Park. He always enjoyed being outdoors. In his years after retirement, you could always catch him sitting in his garage waving as you passed by, but never without his SF Giants hat, Ray Bans, and his US Marines or US Navy sweatshirt on. Those were his favorites, as he was so proud of his son and daughter who served our country.

His love for his family and friends will never be forgotten. He was truly the life of every party. He touched many lives and knew how to make people laugh and feel loved.

Victor was preceded in death by his parents, Rafael and Arcelia Velez, his sister, Martha Tapia, and his grandparents, Jose Maria, and Isidora Bouche.

He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years Nancy, his children, Courtney (Adrian) Juarez, Brittany Velez, Jacob Velez, and his two beautiful granddaughters, Jade and Shay Juarez. Sisters Guadalupe Albo and Isidora (Tony) Lopez. Numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and Godchildren. Victor will always be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and proud grandfather.
The family would like to thank everyone for the tremendous and continuous outpour of love and support.

A visitation will be held at Mehl's Colonial Chapel on Thursday, July 1, 2021, from 5-9 pm with a rosary recited at 7 pm. A mass will be held at St. Patrick's Church on Friday July 2, 2021, at 10 am. A burial will be held at a later date.

To the whole Velez family my prayers are with you. I went to school and he was my dear friend. I am sorry I could not be at his services but he was in my heart and thoughts as it was going on. I was a bit sick and live out of town. My nick name to him was peponia which means pumpkin head in some kind of language.
