Palatka - James Gordon Douglass Jr. passed away November 17, 2025, at his home
in Palatka.
He was born May 9 1930 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to James and Dorothea Douglass. His early years were spent in Pittsburgh and Wayne, Pennsylvania, before attending the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
While attending the Naval Academy, he met and married Jeanne in 1953. Following a career as a naval officer with duty stations in Lebanon, Cuba and a number of U.S. locations James retired earning the rank of Captain.
He and Jeanne traveled extensively, often living abroad, before settling down in Palatka in 1988.
James was preceded in death by Jeanne; second wife, Jocelyn; and son, Christopher.
He is survived by sons, James (Deborah), Jeffrey (Evelyn), Andrew (Martha), Anthony (Patricia) and Mark (Kathi); grandchildren, Brian, Kelly (John), Erin (Mike), Kate (Nick), Emily, Lauren, Eliza (Matt), Jake (Lindsay), Emma (John), Annalie (Nick); and great-grandchildren, Jackson, Max, Arthur, Graham, Louisa, Mabel, Charlotte, and James.
The Douglass family wishes to acknowledge and thank Rosemary Flinn for her invaluable assistance over the past several years. Also, we thank Christine and Bryan Cripps for taking the time to spend most afternoons with James via telephone chats from the Dominican Republic.
