Kathryn Portz Obituary
Kathryn E. Portz, 75, unexpectedly passed away at her home Friday morning, May 16, 2025.
Kathryn was born in Whiteville, North Carolina, and came to live in Putnam County in 1959 coming from Whiteville. She graduated from Crescent City High School in 1967 and attended St. Johns River Community College.
She was a devoted homemaker and mother to her three children. She actively helped with Little League and Girl Scouts. She loved to cook and work in her yard. She also enjoyed going to class reunions reconnecting with old friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lacy and Delores Brame; her sister, Virginia Strang; and her daughter, Heather Elizabeth Palmer Williams.
She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Leo Portz; son, Michael Palmer; daughter, Mary Kathryn (Travis) Coward; grandchildren, McKinley Cowart and Sean Williams; three great-grandchildren as well as three nieces, nephews and several great-nieces and nephews.
Her family will welcome friends and family at the funeral home from 4–6 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2025, (today) for visitation.
Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Crescent City.

We met Katherine through her husband, Leo, who is our best childhood friend from south Florida. Leo and Katherine attended our daughter´s wedding in 2004. Since then we communicated often. We came to Katherine as a kind and gentle person, devoted mother, wonderful family historian, and certainly the very best wife that our friend Leo could ever hope for.
Our sincere and deepest sympathy is offered to Katherine´s family and friends.

Kathryn was a good friend since 4th grade and that is a very long time.Through all her trials and tribulations she was a very strong person. She will be missed by family,friends and especially class of 67 members!
