Lora Hewlett Obituary


Lora Mae Mims Hewlett, 77, of Gainesville and formerly of Crescent City, passed from this life on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville following an extended illness.
She was a native of Deland, FL, and had moved to Gainesville in 2021. Before moving to Gainesville, she had lived in Port Orange, Crescent City and had also lived in the Keys from 1965 – 2004.
Lora was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints Crescent City Ward. She was a 1964 graduate of Crescent City High School, where she was involved with FHA. Lora enjoyed collecting recipes and seashells. She also enjoyed sewing, canning, ceramics, fishing and genealogy.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Burl and Verna Mims; brother, Burl Eugene "Gene" Mims III; and sisters, Barbara Jean Merced and Blanche Ann Hannah.
She is survived by her daughter, Jeanine Hewlett; and sister, Doris Berlene "Lynn" Smith.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Prairie Creek Conservation Cemetery in Gainesville. No public visitation is scheduled.
