Nancy Harris Earle, former mayor of Crescent City and longtime county commissioner, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2025, at her home on Lake Stella, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on September 11, 1946, in New York City to Sidney and Mary Esta Sperry, Nancy moved with her family to Orlando as an infant. She met her late husband, Lloyd Harris, at Boone High School, and together they settled in Crescent City to raise their two children, Patrick and Stephanie.
Nancy's love for our community was unmatched. She served as mayor of Crescent City for 9 years and as a Putnam County commissioner for 16 years. A devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Crescent City and former owner of Harris and Associates Real Estate, Nancy dedicated herself to the betterment of her community. She was instrumental in securing a grant to build the city's water treatment plant and played a key role in the passing of The Better Place Plan, a voter-approved one-cent sales tax to fund county infrastructure. Her civic leadership included serving as Chairman of the Ride Solutions Board, Trustee for Putnam Community Medical Center, and participating in a multi-county initiative to protect and guide development along the St. Johns River.
Her family remembers her for her unwavering strength, grace, and kindness. A natural leader and gifted public speaker, Nancy was a compassionate force throughout Putnam County. She organized annual Christmas gift drives for underserved children and seniors, and she developed and operated the Emergency Sharing Center to provide for people in need. She also created the beloved Strawberry Shortcake booth at the Catfish Festival, which continues to fund Rotary scholarships for local children. She set a wonderful example for her children and grandchildren of what it means to show up for your community and to treat others with respect and compassion.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Lloyd Harris. In 2022, she found love again and married Tim Earle, with whom she shared 3 joyful years, traveling, enjoying family and their community, and birdwatching on Lake Stella.
She is survived by her husband, Tim Earle; her children, Dr. Patrick Harris (Lynn) and Stephanie Harris Park (Jeffery Geloneck); grandchildren: Madeline Schwartz (Evan), Sydney Park, Olivia Harris, Patrick Harris Jr., Joshua Harris, Kiersten Geloneck, and Justin Geloneck; and her great-granddaughter, Johanna June Schwartz.
The family will be hosting a memorial service on October 10, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Crescent City.
In lieu of Flowers, the family suggests donations to one of Nancy's favorite charities: The First Presbyterian Church of Crescent City (301 Cypress Avenue,
