Arthur Sares Obituary


Family-Placed Funeral Notice

ARTHUR PAUL SARES 82, of Delray Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on October 24 after a brief illness. His brother Ted, of North Conway, NH, was with him at the time of his death. Mr. Sares has been compared to Tommy Dorsey as one of the great lyrical trombone players of the world. After enlisting and serving in WW II from 1941 to 1946, he earned his BA and MA degrees from Northwestern University and the Chicago Conservatory of Music, respectively. He played lead trombone with Frank Sinatra, Burt Bacharach, the Chicago Festival Symphony Orchestra, and literally hundreds of the biggest names acts in the world. Mr. Sares had a long history of playing trombone professionally in classical and Jazz settings. Mr. Sares was a professor of music at Palm Beach Community College and Florida International University. He was also the lead trombonist for the Florida Symphonic Pops, Palm Beach Pops, and Boca Pops. He was inducted into the Big Band Hall Of Fame in 1994. Mr. Sares was predeceased by his wife Kathleen Mazzer Sares of Delray Beach. In addition he leaves two sons, Timothy M. Sares and John S. Sares. He is also survived by his siblings and in-laws, Ted and Holly Sares of New Hampshire, Margaret and John Flood of Tampa, FL and LaRue and Walter Boenig of Las Vegas, NV. A memorial service was held in Delray Beach on October 31, 2005.
