BERNARD GORDON Bernard Gordon, 88, of York, PA and Palm Beach Gardens, FL died Sunday, February 6, 2011 at his home in Florida. He is the husband of Doris Frankel Gordon to whom he was married for 63 years. Mr. Gordon was born on February 9, 1922 in New York, NY, a son of the late Isadore and Rachel (Litvak) Gordon. He graduated from City College High School in Baltimore, Maryland. He served as a Carrier based Aviator in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Gordon was the founder and former Chief Executive Officer of The Gordon Waste Company, Columbia, PA. He was also Co-President of the former Super Salvage Company in Washington, D.C. He is a member of the Ohev Sholom Congregation, York, PA. He was a Past President and Life member of the Jewish Community Center, the Jewish War Veteran and Past Trustee of Ohev Sholom Conservative Congregation. He also served as Past President of the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Columbia and the Elks organization. He was a longtime member of the National B'nai B'rith Organization. He was one of the founders of the York Youth Symphony and served as its Treasurer for 20 years. He was a member of the Advisory Board of Directors of the former Hamilton Bank. He also held memberships with the American Jewish Congress and the American Jewish Committee and was a Past Chairman of the United Jewish Appeal in York. One of his greatest joys was golfing and he had memberships at the Outdoor Country Club, York and the Boca Grove Country Club, Boca Raton, FL. Besides his wife, Doris; he leaves two daughters, Phyllis Gordon Cohen and her husband, Barton of Kansas City, MO; Lynne Gordon DeWitt and her husband, James of Pacific Palisades, CA; a son, Robert Gordon of York; a granddaughter, Liza DeWitt and a step granddaughter, Katie DeWitt. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Gordon. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Temple Beth Israel, 2090 Hollywood Drive, York,PA. Officiating at the service will be Rabbi Jeffrey Astrachan. There will be no viewing. Burial will be in South Hill Hebrew Cemetery. The Geiple Funeral Home, Inc. 53 Main Street, Glen Rock, PA is in charge of the arrangements.
