Billy Bryant Obituary

Family-Placed Obituary

BILLY H. BRYANT Lt. Col. Billy Harrison Bryant died peacefully at his home in Pahokee, Florida on Saturday, August 16, 2008. Mr. Bryant was a native Floridian and a true southern gentleman. He was born in Pleasant Grove, FL near Plant City, on August 1, 1922 where he grew up and attended high school. His twenty-one year U.S. Air Force career included stations in Puerto Rico, Alaska, and Oklahoma as a valuable pilot and respected commanding officer. After retiring from the USAF in 1965, Mr. Bryant brought his family to West Palm Beach, and embarked on a second career in the new industry of fast food. He soon developed his own special way of making 'the best fried chicken you ever ate'. Dixie Fried Chicken in Belle Glade, FL was opened in 1969 and has been in business in the same location ever since. In all, Mr. Bryant spent 43 years operating both hamburger take-out restaurants and Dixie Fried Chicken Stores in small towns around Lake Okeechobee. He will be sadly missed by his many employees, family and friends who consider him the finest man they have ever known. His kindness to everyone who knew him will forever be remembered. Mr. Bryant's love for his family was the solid rock on which they stood, and an example for fathers everywhere. He is survived by his devoted and loving family including his son and business partner for over thirty years, Billy H. Bryant, Jr. (Susan); daughters, Rebecca Chapman and Elizabeth Figueroa (Ramiro); grandchildren, Andrew and Benjamin Bryant, Daniel Mix (Barbara), Valery Quintero (Gustavo), Ramiro, Isabella, and Alberto Figueroa. Mr. Bryant will also be missed by his dear sister, Rosemary Turley of St. Petersburg, ex-wife, Moena Bryant, and many loving nieces, nephews, and his two great-grandchildren. Visitation for friends and family will be held at Glades Funeral Chapel, 1040 N. Main St., Belle Glade, Wednesday, August 20, from 6-8 PM. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 21, at 11:00 AM at Good Shepherd Church of God, 1800 Bacom Point Rd., Pahokee. Mr. Bryant will be laid to rest in Pleasant Grove, Florida. I would like to express my condolences to the entire
Bryant Family. I am the dental hygienist who has treated Mr. Bryant for over 20 years. I looked forward to our time together as he always spoke about his family and he had such love for his family. He was a kind and loving man and he gave the best bear-hugs. I will truly miss seeing him, he was one of my favorite patients. My prayers are with you. May God Bless your family.

To my cousins, Bill, Becky, and Beth:
So many memories--your dad's infectious laugh and twinkling eyes, his bear hugs; Christmas and summertime get-togethers at Grandmother's house; mouth-watering chicken and shrimp he and Bill prepared for reunions; his very generous heart and loving ways; his assuring presence when my dad died. Though the rest of us only had scattered moments with him, those moments left us wanting more.
If his extended family misses him, we know your sense of loss is even greater. We also know that the same loving Heavenly Father who was with us in the good times is also with us in this hard time.

God bless and keep you all,

God blessed me richly 36 years ago when I first met the Bryant family. Two years later, I joined the family as a son-in-law. Billy Bryant and his brother, David, were two of the finest men I have ever known. They are now together again with our Lord. Heaven is better for their presence.

I hope I am always able to remember hanging at the Biff Burger after school at Conniston and fun we had at the races or best tasting fried chicken that you could buy. For me, you were always the best example of the soft-spoken, southern gentleman. Thank you Mr. Bryant for your contribution to the world we know today.
My heartfelt condolences go to all the Bryant family.
