Brittany Carleo Obituary
Then he shot her dead, in the cafe where she worked. Then he turned the gun on himself.
Family members said 17-year-old Brittany Carleo lived a short and turbulent life. She dropped out of Port St. Lucie High School. Her parents gave up custody of her more than a month ago. She was living with an aunt, who said Brittany was trying to start anew.
"She was a lost child," said Elaine Boyle, another one of her aunts. "She brought herself up. This poor girl was looking for love from everyone and anything."
Her traumatic past reared tragically Saturday morning when her ex-boyfriend's father, Scott Uslan, a 42-year-old registered sex offender who had molested her, shot and killed her inside a Tropical Smoothie Cafe on Port St. Lucie Boulevard.
The girl's troubled relationship with both Uslan and his son, Chris, was hinted at throughout letters and cards in a nightstand beside her bed, at her father's house in Rivergreen Villas.
"You do not have to thank me for what I do for you," the older Uslan wrote in one letter on yellow notebook paper. "I believe I was sent by a higher power to take care and watch over you. I will always be here for you." He signed the letter: "Scott & Dad & O.G."
One of the cards Chris wrote to Brittany was eerily prescient: "Hey baby, aka Piglet. I really hope you do wait for me and you stay away from the wrong people." He signed the card, "your baby boy, Chris."
Her family members said they broke up several months ago, when the younger Uslan was sent away to boot camp to Polk County, then moved to live with a relative in Colorado.

It's been 8 years and it's gotten easier but I still don't like to think about it. I wish you could have met Ariana and got to be there through everything with me like you always were. My daughter Tiffany and Brittany were friends in school and Tiffany just loved Brittany as well as our entire family...there were many sleepovers and birthday parties...late night trips to Friendlys with Aunt Barbs ...many memories.we enjoyed her presence in our home..we will miss her beautiful soul and kind heart. Brittany where do I start I've known u since middle school I remember when we used to laugh together, in class, hang out with other friends at lunch it seems like just yesterday. The news I recieved saterday morning devastated me, I refused to believe it.
