Cathy LEWIS

1944 - 2018

Cathy Kraut Lewis of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, beloved wife of Duane Harley Lewis, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2018. Cathy will be remembered by all for her zest for life, her unique and colorful style, her devotion to her husband and family, and her kind and generous spirit. Formerly of Palm Beach and Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, Cathy was born on February 27, 1944 to the late Adeline Ansin, a longtime resident of Palm Beach and the late Arthur Kleven of Swampscott, Massachusetts. Cathy attended Connecticut College in New London, received her Bachelor of Arts from Hunter College in New York City, and her Masters of Education from Boston University. She was married previously to the late Joel Arthur Kraut, MD, of Chestnut Hill. When Joel was appointed Chief of Opthalmology for the Fifth Air Force, the couple resided in Japan where Cathy taught English to Japanese nationals, volunteered as a candy striper at the Tachiwakawa Air Force Hospital, and earned a Masters Certificate in the Sogetsu School of Flower Arranging. Her multifaceted career took Cathy from teacher, to founder of Amazing Services, a Public Relations firm which launched small businesses, to President of Rocky, Inc., importer of gemstones from Brazil where she also designed jewelry for her stores in Rio de Janeiro and Boca Raton, Florida. Cathy was an adventurer who, with her husband Duane, cruised the world, usually on the Crystal and Cunard ocean liners, and traveled to over 150 countries and all seven continents. Cathy mentored students in communications and alumni affairs through the Dreyfoos School of the Arts Foundation. In addition, Cathy was the Chairman of the Board of the Palm Beach Festival of the Arts, a multi-cultural organization whose goal was to make the arts more accessible to communities in Palm Beach County. Cathy was the proud owner of a prize winning 1958 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud, dubbed "The Princess," served as the Activities Director for the Rolls Royce Owners Club of Florida for ten years and participated in the Rolls Royce Hundredth Year Anniversary World Tour. Cathy was an avid fitness enthusiast who swam laps daily, played golf and went to the gym most days. Always elegant, Cathy loved dancing, and Duane was always willing to show her off on the dance floor. Cathy was a devoted mother to, David and Ellefy Kraut, Amy and Ralph Esposito, Kathleen and Jabe Fowler, Dan and Lee Lewis, and Bridget Lewis and Krista Leue. She was a loving and generous Nana to, Cali, Peyton, and Hunter Esposito, and beloved sister to, Thomas and Ella Fay Kleven. Cathy is also survived by her nephew, Aaron Kleven and his wife Rosanna Lyons, and her niece, Deborah and Michael Morbeto and their son Michael. She is also survived by her dear Aunt, Barbara Miller. She loved so much her step-grandchildren, Caroline and Kaitlyn Knight, Alec Johnsen and his wife Heather, Devin and Perri Johnsen, all of whom will miss her dearly. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 22, 2018 from1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Aycock-Riverside Funeral Home and Crematorium, 1112 Military Trial, Jupiter. A Memorial Service will be held in the funeral home at 2:00 pm.
