CHOPIN, Christopher Allen Christopher Allen Chopin was born on March 21, 1976, to his loving mother, Susan Gardiner Chopin, and father, L. Frank Chopin, and joined the family as the beloved little brother of Philip and Alexandra. Chris was a national debate champion, and earned his B.A. from Emory University, and his law degree from the University of Miami, from which his parents, brother, aunt, and other family members also had graduated. He built a respected family law practice in West Palm Beach, Florida, and was cherished by the legal community for his brilliance, humor, and tenacity. Above all, however, he adored his daughter, Emeline Jane, and was boundlessly proud of her, every single day. Chris is survived by his loving wife, Rebecca, his parents, sister, and brother, his beloved dog, Cody, and many other friends and loved ones. Visitation and services will begin at 10:00AM on Saturday, October 14, 2017, at Quattlebaum Funeral Home, 6411 Parker Avenue, West Palm Beach, Florida 33405. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Doctors Without Borders, (www.msf.org).

The highlight of my days on twitter was a "Like" from Chris. His incredible intellect and sharp wit often left me in the dust, scratching my head and opening a new tab to learn more. Chris was always pushing us to learn more, and make it the truth, so we did and before we knew it, we got red-pilled... and that was a good thing. I want to say RIP but that wouldn't be Chris. Instead, he's probably learning all he can about the afterlife and getting everything fixed that might be amiss. Thank you Chris, for your amazing gift of Truth.

Dear Susan, Phil and the rest of the Family, I was saddened to hear the news of Chris's death. His life was far too short. I know that your family and Chris's friends will miss him dearly as well as the legal community. I lost my brother when he was too young and it is always a void but you hold on to the warm memories.

My prayers are with you.

Put twitter away for 2 weeks, come back to find Christopher (Alan) has passed away. This is a devastating loss for his tens of thousands of twitter followers. I am truly at a loss for words.

To his family and friends, his dear parents, his beloved wife and cherished daughter, I am so very sorry for your loss.

RIP, Christopher. You will be missed and fondly remembered always.

This has taken me days and days to write. Oh how my world changed when I "met" Chris on Twitter. I've always felt like a freak with thoughts and ideas spinning in my head. Chris seemed to put into words the things that I thought but couldn't seem to express. He made me feel like I wasn't so crazy and that if someone as intelligent as Chris understood me, then I couldn't be that bad. He made me feel like I wasn't alone in my thoughts for the first time in my life. I would read his tweets first thing in the morning and I'd be sitting here with tears pouring down my face as I laughed so hard and often spit out my coffee. His creative thought processes and his wit were unprecedented. I knew right away that he was a true genius and the most intelligent and kind man that I had ever known. He was brutal with his honesty many times but it was just because he cared so much and wanted people to go outside of their boxes and think further than they've ever thought before. I often told him he was the Exit Counselor of Twitter. Truth and justice ran through his veins and he lived and breathed honesty and compassion. I admit that Chris was my hero. He was the kind of man that is so rare and unique that I felt so blessed and so lucky to be his friend. My heart is shattered now and I know I'll never know another person like Chris. He was truly a once in a lifetime friend. I am heartbroken for his family and real life friends especially. I can't imagine the pain that they must feel. He taught me more than anyone has in my entire life. My son and I cried when we saw that he passed away. I cried for days and hoped every morning that it was just a bad dream. I truly loved Chris, Alan Smithee, my dear friend and my professor. Chris was a gentleman and a scholar, a man of great honor. We are all blessed to have known him. I will never forget him.

My condolences to Chris' family. Loved his clarity on Twitter. His was a wonderful mind, seeking and often asserting truth in a world of confusion and falsehoods. Looked forward to reading his thoughts and opinions every day. Was honored that he followed me, thinking he might like some of mine. I will miss him. A rare soul that has left us far too early.

Dear Susan and Phil,
There aren't any words that can describe the feelings that you must be experiencing right now. I am so sorry that you have to go through this horrible nightmare of loss. I know the pain of losing a brother and a (grand) child and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Chris was one of a kind. Incredibly tenacious and resilient, a mind that was so vastly superior to the average that he outranked all in his wit, his writing and his sheer volume of articulation both verbally and on paper. I had the good fortune to work along side of him in one case that seem to have revived itself recently. May his beautiful daughter bring happiness and joy to this otherwise dismal day. May your spirits be lifted and may God hold you in the palm of His hand. Please know that you are in the prayers of my family, Steve, Christeen and me. We love you and our hearts break for you. God bless you all and especially his little girl.
Fondly,

Wow, what a tragedy. I learned about the sad loss of Christopher Chopin today, and of his exponentially incredible impact on others and his passion for specific subject matters that all arrive at Truth being told, or in these days rather, exposed. I came here to say how his impact goes beyond his twitter followers, and beyond those who knew and loved him, it is infinite ~ I feel the loss. My condolences to those who were in his life daily, on and offline. Prayers and thoughts with you, know that this special guy was a hero, and he fought for the greater good ~ The Truth, and he died on the front lines of that fight. Who knew this would be such a dangerous war in this
Country (?) I'm sure he did. RIP Chris aka "Smithee".

I still can't believe you are gone. I was hoping you were in Twitter jail. I am utterly devastated by your sudden departure. You were my guru. I will miss your wisdom and your snark. Thank you for teaching and challenging us. I am sure wherever you are, you are debating someone now. Twitter will not be the same without you.

To the Chopins,
My sincere condolences. There are no words when a love one leaves the world too soon. May you find comfort and peace.

Judge a person by the impact they've made on others. Chris, or Alan as I knew him, had positive impact on thousands through a mere twitter account. I can only imagine how many countless others he impacted in powerful and lasting ways that he personally interacted with. The world is emptier today because he's no longer with us but it is a much richer place because of gifts he imparted on so many. Thank you so much for allowing me to be a small part of your life. He was a living encyclopedia. I was forever amazed at his depth of knowledge on any subject. A quick and sharp wit rarely matched. He was smart, quick, quirky and insightful. He made me laugh, he made me want to deck him, and I feel his loss as if we had been neighbors for years. To his daughter, my heart goes out to you, know your father had a world that admired and respected him. To his wife, I can't imagine your pain. He was loved and hated by many, and he always kept his respect for women, probably much to do with his love for you. And to his parents who should never know this pain, you raised an amazing and brilliant son. He will go on in his family and through his words. My condolences to you all

You kept the serious issues facing us today in the forefront. You helped people learn to think for themselves. Half the time, I think you're the only reason I logged into Twitter, just to see what you were posting and how you were handling the haters who appeared to make challenging you their life mission. We always agreed how creepy it was when the same user would type "Alan" in every tweet they would address you in (all 15 tweets.)

I'm shocked by your passing and I'm honestly hoping this is just a horrible joke. I'm not sure how your followers will get through. The world was better with you in it, and the world will be much sadder and more lonely without you.

To Chris' family, I'm truly sorry for your loss. I know there's nothing anyone can say that will take away your pain but I hope you find comfort in knowing that Chris was loved by many. He touched more lives than anyone can possibly know. Thank you for sharing him with all of us. You are in my thoughts. Sending love and light your way.

I truly feel such a loss that words canmot explain.
Emeline, your father was someone to admire. He spoke truth which is difficult for so many. He possessed so many great qualities that people who crossed his path whether in person or on social media could see, without question, what a great person he was. He didn't tolerate the foolhardy lightly and rightfully so. He would not give answers readily unless you proved you had done your research first. We, whom understood what he was doing, greatly admired him. We, on social media, missed the greatest opportunity to meet this great man in person, but, we are thankful that our paths did cross. I know I am eternally grateful.
RIP AFlat. You will be missed by so many. ❤

Smithee, we had one debate about Christianity I managed to use some logic I learned from Ravi zacharias apologetics and apparently I passed some muster because I felt I was allowed in to your circle of trust as it were. I was very honored to be able to interact with you on occasion and I would love coming to your defense on occasion when someone attacked you. It was too short a time and I am deeply saddened to miss your charm and wit and brilliance. Learning further about you makes me feel terribly fortunate to have met you even if only briefly and remotely. May the Lord of the Universe stand as an intecessor for you to Our Heavenly Father. I have known Chris since he first became a lawyer, and I guess you could say I was a mentor to him.

I quickly realized that he had the highest intelligence of practically anyone I have ever met. He also had an incredible passion for his beliefs and and intolerance for ignorance.

Despite having 5 years of experience on Chris and being considered an "expert" in my field, it was not long before Chris was my go to guy whenever I had a legal (or other) problem I could not figure out.

Even though I was the "mentor", I had the benefit and blessing to learn much from Chris.

I had no idea Christopher made such an impact on so many through social media. This warms my heart.

My heart is breaking for Emeline, Sue, Rebecca, Phil, Alex and Mr. Chopin. My deepest condolences for your loss.

As a teacher of Philosophy, I found a kindred soul in "Alan," a modern day Socrates whose willingness to ask questions got under the skin of the powerful and nagged at those content to live an "unexamined life." Although he was "just another guy," it always gave me a little thrill when he replied to me directly or liked something I posted. His level of knowledge and skill at research elevated him above nearly anybody else I've met on Twitter. And we shared a lot of the same taste in music. I can't even believe he's gone, to be honest. What a loss.

Christopher,
I am shocked by how much your passing has impacted me. You and I didn't see eye to eye always, but we managed to do daily battle of wits/words out of respect for each other's intellects and ability to not take each other too seriously.

I know you would hate this tribute as you never came off as a sentimentalist and finding this all too trite. But it is an important moment of closure for many, far more than you would have expected. Your family and especially your little girl needs to know that you touched a great many lives and not all of us can make that claim. I have no words of comfort that can ease their pain but it is important that they know in this age of social media... Alan Smithee was a Legend!

Many say they can't believe how you changed them yet they never met you. Well I remind them that they never met Harper Lee, J.D.Salinger, James Baldwin, E B White, Theodore Geisel, William Shakespeare, Robin Williams and David Bowie-- all who changed our lives. Add Alan to that pantheon! Peace to all and to working to making the World a better place 140 Characters at a time

I wish you could see the impact your passing has had on Twitter. You touched so many lives.

One of your exchanges, "Are there any more like you" someone asked.
You responded "The prisons are full of them"

One of our last exchanges was the night Irma was coming to shore. The storm got worse so you signed off.

I said:"Please take care of yourself. The Twitterverse would not be the same without you."

I am profoundly saddened to find out just how right that statement was. Go gently on your journey.

Dear Chopin Family,
There are only words of comfort here for your tragic loss. Please know how much Chris (Alan) was loved by so many. He was incessant about keeping us keen on what's most important - Caring about what's right and doing right by every person. Alan Smithee was . . . is . . . by far, the sharpest, the most incisive, the most perspicacious man I've ever known. So many are lucky to have known him. If only the world could know him; his wit, his unyielding support of the poor, the sick, the imprisoned, the unfortunate. His uncompromising sincerity made him a giant among us. If we are to be better to each other, ever, it may be because of Alan. I once told him that his timeline should be published as "The Compendium of Everything". The edit should read, "The Compendium of Everything Right and Good". My heart breaks for you all.

He was in his glory when it came to legal sparring over the intricacies of the law. A brilliant scholar, if Chris said it was law, it was. "Il ne faut pas le sous-estimer." I owe him everything I hold dear, my sanity, my home, and most of all my children. He was always there for us. I miss you terribly. I miss our strategy sessions and your comforting counsel. Although I only knew him on Twitter for the last 2 years, he had an enormous impact on me. Like a great teacher whose impact lasts long after the class has ended, I suspect his influence will stay with me. I admired his exceptional mind, razor-sharp wit, abiding compassion, and tireless fight for truth in politics. His efforts to drag us kicking and screaming past our biases into the light of fact were Herculean and likely cost him dearly. But his value in improving the discourse of politics cannot be overstated. I was incredibly fond of him and will miss him dearly. Wow, where to begin?

I did not know Christopher personally, we followed one another on social media. In my 46 years on the planet, I have never interacted with another person that could match his encyclopedic knowledge of our legal and political systems. He was one part Elliot Ness, one part Edward R Murrow with a dash of a fired up George Carlin mixed in. Many argued and attempted to pinpoint his political affiliation, but Alan (his Twitter persona) had an allegiance only to the facts and fair treatment for all people.

He did not suffer fools and those that considered him a friend knew to do our homework on a subject before approaching him. Thanks to Christopher, I will always be asking where the money is coming from. RIP my friend!

A master communicator of the digital world who told the unmeasurable truth with only 140 characters has crossed over - all of us who followed him are now less. May his loved ones find solace in knowing his legacy is global.

May your spirit be at rest. Your words are immortal and your wisdom timeless. You were loved by more people than you could ever have imagined. Your passing has left a void that will be very hard to fill. I wish there were a way to turn back time and tell you how important your voice has been to the waking and shaking of American Consciouness. Your clarity of thought and ability to articulate opened the eyes of many who encompass the sleeping masses. The opposition against you was often very strong. That's because you truly made a difference in our world. Rest In Peace dear friend. You will never be forgotten!

I knew "Alan" from twitter and met him during the Bernie Sanders Campaign. Alan was one of a kind on twitter, he never did anything but share what he thought and backed it with facts regardless of what his followers thought. He taught many how to use critical thinking just by following his TL and always had the wit and sharpness of a razor. Even though I never 'met Alan', I miss him enormously. His opponents will breathe a sigh of relief because I never saw him EVER lose an argument. We have all lost a great ally and friend, he truly made a difference. I hope family knows how much we at twitter loved Chris. I will never forget him and always seek to be more like him with my cognitive reasoning. Peace all.

In a world brimming with chaos and ugliness your clear words of truth were a light of saneness and hope. You are sorely missed.

I loved 'Alan's' tweets. He had an incredible intellect and an encyclopaedic knowledge. He sought the truth regardless of the direction that took him. We are all poorer for his passing and tough the cyber world is seldom real, I feel a true sense of loss of someone I have never met. Thanks Smithee, my heartfelt condolences to your family and friends.

I had the opportunity to meet and work with Chris when he started practicing law. What a super, personable gentleman. I was in total shock when I heard of his untimely passing. He will be missed very, very much. I'm sending my deepest condolences to Susan and Phil. Please find peace in your hearts knowing our lives are much richer for having had Chris in our lives. He's in a good place and the day will come when we are all together again.
Wishing love and peace to Susan and Phil. You are both in my heart.

I didn't know Chris personally. I knew him as [email protected], someone whose tweets I read everyday, who made me laugh, and whose brilliance I admired. I will miss him greatly and extend my sincere condolences to his entire family.
