To The Family of David DeOreo:

My brother, Dan, called me on the 6th of April to tell me of Dave's passing.
I was shocked as I always am when one of my contemporaries moves on.

While I was not one of Dave's closest friends we spent many years together "hanging out" at the former Victory Park School and "on the corner" at Green and Mayfield. We played numerous games (including Football, Softball, Morra and Sette-e-Mezzo) at Victory Park and Dave always stood out as an excellent athlete and a tenacious competitor. During all that time he distinguished himself as someone who played fair but hard. If on your team Dave always "had your back." He never complained and maintained a cool demeanor even under the most stressful circumstances. He was respectful of others at all times and I never saw him get angry or raise his voice. I liked him a lot and, as my brother, Dan, has said, so did my mother who has a knack for detecting persons of good character.

I am pleased to see that Dave had a meaningful and successful life. I am sorry that it ended so soon.

To all of Dave's Family

My prayers and sympathy to all of you. I am so sorry to hear such sad news. I would like to share with you some thoughts and sentiments as I recall my frienship with Dave. Dave and I were friends from our early teens through our early twenties attending Brush High School together. We were especially close during our senior year of high school just hanging out nearly every day. It was during that year that I really got to know Dave and I realized what a bright and and talented and sensitive person he was. He never got mean and never got mad. always cool on the outside and decent on the inside. He was gifted with intelligence and athletic skills. He was a very good friend and always kind to others. My mother who was always a pretty good judge of character especially liked Dave and singled him out amongst all my friends liking him the most. His politeness and respect won her over. Mom was right. Unfortunately I am sad to say Dave and I drifted apart over the next 40 years as our lives seemingly went in different directions. As a result I never got to realize his great accomplishments. I only wish we could have reconnected so I could have enjoyed seeing my old friends great success in life. It pleases me that he did so well. Again, Mom was right. I know that Dave suffered some but I'm sure that only made him greater. God was with him and now he is with God. Good bye "Trackman" you will be missed.

To Dave's Family:

Dave and I were close friends in high school. We had a lot of fun times in South Euclid where his Grandparents lived on Green Road, and where Dave often stayed. Dave talked fondly of his sister Geri who also lived in South Euclid. I spent a lot of time with Dave at his "other" home in the 110th and Woodland area with his dad Nick. Dave's cousin "P.A." lived downstairs. Dave had a great personality and had many friends, both male and female. I personally considered Dave my best friend. In 1963 he was best man at my wedding. Over the next few years I didn't see Dave all that much, partly because my family and I moved to the Columbus Ohio area. At the 20th or 25th Brush High School Reunion, I learned Dave's address in Florida and wrote him a few times and learned from him that he was married and doing counseling for the VA. I regret that we did not continue corresponding and am truly saddened by his death. I have many many fond memories of our times together. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. I would love to hear more about his recent life and his passing from anyone who wishes to communicate them to me. From what I read in the Guest Book, he touched a lot of lives along the way.

Sincerely, Vic Simonetta

Uncle David - Besides my father; you have taught me the true meaning of family. You have instilled the knowledge of what life can offer and what I can make of it. I have been truely blessed to have been able to share my life with you. I will not forget all the family picnics from morning to night, the smiles on childrens faces from your annual Christmas party, silver dollars and the track. I LOVE YOU AND YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. Give kisses to Gramma, Aunt Flo and my dearest brother Coz.

Some lights are very bright but they only shine for a short while, where other lights shine for a long time but are not very bright. David shined brightly and did so for a long time, and so he was able to touch so many. Fortunately, I was touched by his light.
