Doris ALTSCHULER Obituary

ALTSCHULER, Doris

(November 6, 1921 to September 19, 2014) Doris "Dee" Weisinger Altschuler was born in Norwich, Connecticut on November 6, 1921, the youngest of five children of Jack and Bessie Weisinger. At the start of World War II, Dee enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed to Washington, D.C. Honorably discharged in 1946, she held the rank of Yeoman Second Class. After the war, Dee attended the University of Miami; she graduated in three years and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Dee worked briefly as a secretary at the Mt. Sinai Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut and then did the same for the presidents of Baumritter Furniture Company and the Ethan Allen Furniture Company in New York City. Dee married Harold Altschuler in 1962. She was a devoted wife, caring for him at home during the many years of his final illness. Dee outlived her sisters and brother, but her nephews and nieces, grand nephews and grand nieces, all of whom loved her dearly, made her last years largely happy ones. They, and her friends, will miss Dee. A celebration of her life will be held in January 2015.
