George Raft Russum
George Raft Russum left this earthy world on July 30, 2021 at the age of 83. He was born in Fairfax, Alabama and moved to Florida at the age of 2. He attended Northgrade Elementary and Lake Worth High School.
After enlisting in the Navy and serving his country aboard the USS Forrestal he resided in Lakewood, California. Ten years later he returned to Lake Worth.
George had many jobs over the years, quality control engineer and inspector, owner of George's Gun Shop in Lantana, Reserve Police Officer for Lantana, home remodeling, and he eventually retired from the Public Works Dept. of the City of WPB. His favorite job though was a Firearms Instructor for the National Rifle Association and local spokesperson for the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Program for children.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Barbara (West Palm Beach, FL), sister, Jimmie (Tony) Schumpert (Summerville, SC), daughters, Gwen (Michael) Bryant (Lakewood, CA), Anna (Craig) Spear (Sussex, NJ), and Robynne (Michael) Ryals (Lake Worth, FL), sons, Sean (Wendy) Russum (Lantana, FL) and Robert (Robie) Ritchie (Midland, TX), grandchildren, Kory, Sean, Miranda, Keegan, Brooke, Collin, Katie, Blaine, Natalie, Natasha and Edsel, and great-grandchildren, Gryphon, Silas, Sophie, Harper and Christopher.
He was pre-deceased by his father and mother, Louis and Vivian Russum, brothers Danny and Sonny, sisters, Mary and Margaret, daughter Gena and son, Glen.
Interment will be at the South Florida National Cemetery on August 26 at 2:30 p.m. and a Celebration of Life will be held at Lakeside United Methodist Church on August 28 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lakeside United Methodist Church, 1901 12th Avenue South, Lake Worth, FL 33461, or the National Rifle Association Eddie Eagle Program.
