Family-Placed Obituary

HOPE BENDER PRESCOTT 68, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Newport, RI, formerly of Providence, died on November 17 after a brief illness. Funeral services were held at Temple Beth El in Providence on November 19. She leaves her husband of 47 years, Dr. Gary Prescott, her children Dr. Jon and Noreen Prescott of Cleveland, OH, Michael and Robin Prescott of Warwick, RI, and Diane and Ted Slafsky of Vienna, VA. She also leaves six grandchildren Sara and Eric Prescott, Max and Sophia Prescott, and Rachel and Adam Slafsky. In addition she leaves her sister and brother-in-law Sandra and Dr. Stanley Simon of Providence and brother and sister-in-law, Jeffrey and Carol Bender of Palm Beach Gardens. Hope, the daughter of the late Max and Ruth Bender, was born in Providence. She graduated from Emerson College in 1962 and returned to Emerson for a graduate degree in speech pathology. She was a speech pathologist in the Providence School Department for 30 years. The personification of optimism and energy, Hope was devoted to family and friends, many going back to her childhood. She nurtured those friendships just as she did her gardens in Newport. Friends are invited to calling hours on Tuesday, December 1 from 7-9 PM at her home in Ballan Isle.
