JAMES MARTIN RHODEN, Sr. Retired Fire Chief City of Boynton Beach Age 79 of Okeechobee, formerly of Boynton Beach, passed away Saturday, February 19, 2011. James was born and raised in Boynton Beach and proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. After serving the Boynton Beach Fire Department for many years, James retired as the Fire Chief in 1988. He was also a Past Master of Boynton Masonic Lodge and a member of the Scottish Rite Consistory in Lake Worth and Amara Shrine Temple in Palm Beach Gardens. James is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Nola; two sons, James Martin (Christina) Rhoden, Jr. and Calvin Brian Rhoden; six grandchildren, James Martin (Rebecca) Rhoden, Brett Lloyd Rhoden, James Brian (Jeannie) Rhoden, Sandy Jennifer (Kevin) Worley, Jessica (Tony) Rhoden and Caitlin Lawler; five great-grandchildren, Hanna, Autumn, Anthony, Trevor and Mason; two brothers, Lloyd "Tommy" Rhoden and Charles "Shorty" Rhoden; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home, corner of U.S. Hwy. #1 and N.E. 15th Ave., Boynton Beach on Thursday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 25, 2011 at 11:30 AM at the funeral home. A Committal Service with U.S. Navy Military Honors will follow at 1:15 PM at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Community Care Association in James' memory. Chief Rhoden was a good and wise man. He inspired many young men in the fire service. I regret that I was not able to attend his services. Please know that he had a great reputation as a Fire Chief and I will hold him and the family in my prayers.

To the family, Just found out about Mr. James and wanted ya'll to know that Mr. James was a special person in my life who I worked with,and Mr.Tommy teaching me how to work plastering doing what Daddy had taught me.We had alot of good memories's at the reuions we had,knowing that the Hackle's and the Rhodens were all one family.God bless your family,Mrs.Nola,Marty, Brian.
