James Waddell Obituary

Family-Placed Obituary

Dr. JAMES EUGENE WADDELL, Sr. 82 years old, of West Palm Beach, FL, passed away Saturday evening, May 10, 2008, after an extended illness. Born in Vero Beach, FL, he was the son of the late Beckett Quay and Ruby DuBose Waddell. Dr. Waddell was a retired dentist having opened his private practice in West Palm Beach in 1956. He was never happier than when he was able to extend his talent in helping a patient. Dr. Waddell graduated from Stetson University in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree in organic chemistry. He was a graduate of the Emory University School of Dentistry in 1955 and a member of the OKU honorary dental fraternity. Other professional affiliations included his involvement and interest as a fellow in the American College of Dentists, having been chairman of the Florida section. He also served as past president of the Palm Beach County Dental Society. He was proud of his over 50 year membership and past presidency of the West Palm Beach Kiwanis Club. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 58 years, Margaret Oldford Waddell of West Palm Beach; his daughter, Elizabeth W. Lawson (husband, Dr. J. Mark Lawson) of Chesapeake, VA; his son, James E. Waddell, Jr. (wife, Sherry T. Waddell) of Palmer, Alaska, as well as four granddaughters, Ashley and Emily Lawson, Julia and Jessica Waddell and one grandson, Benjamin Waddell. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at the Royal Poinciana Chapel, Palm Beach, with Dr. Robert Norris, officiating. Those who wish may send tributes to Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL, 33407. I am so sorry for your loss at this time -- Dr. Waddell was such a wonderful man - even though I hadn't seen him in many years, I still have fond memories of him and those in his office! And being thought of fondly, by those who were children visiting the dentist speaks volumes about his kind ways and character!! He will be greatly missed!
