Dear Mary and John, Jr: My earliest memories of Boca are of stopping in at Matty's, sometimes just to say hi. John always had a smile and a good word and always asked: How's Philip? Boca has changed quite a bit since then, but the warm memories of our beginnings here, with good friends like the Matteis family, remain bright. God bless you and your family during this sad time.

My dear Aunt Mary, John James, Martha, Robbie, Lauren and Mandy.
Uncle John was a favorite of all of ours! He certainly was a legend. The Lord has a mission for him now thats for sure. He is now with my dad, his dear friend, and the card clan, laughing those laughs. I can remember as they told a story they had to hold their chests because the sound of laughter would not come out. That is how hard they would laugh and how much fun they had together.
He is playing cards with the "Big A", Aunt Betty, Uncle Peter, Uncle Danny and of course Uncle Joe who would just be shaking his head during their little arguments, fixing something or another.
Lets not forget that Uncle John and my dad are probably getting ready to run errands (without any fender benders), and probably planning to purposely getting lost in the "Checkers" parking lot. They were not supposed to be eating that but they stopped there anyway. The best part about it now is that and which they are loving this part...they will now go for FREE!!!!!... and of course not get yelled at when they got home!
Uncle Johnny is in good company that's for sure.
I truely believe they are all with us in our souls and in the safest place, with each other. Remembering all their stories as I am sure you will keep talking about them is so important to everyone and in a sense keeps them here with us.
I send my love and prayers to all of you and will be with you in spirit during this very sad time.
I will light a candle for him at 11 am on Thursday.
Always with my love,
Mamie "Lou"

Dear Mary,
Much love and prayerful sympathy on your loss of John. He was a wonderful person and a great neighbor. It has been my pleasure to know John and you for thirty years and to receive many kindnesses from John who walked the street regularly when he was well. We will miss him. Love, Barbara Goetz
