SIEGEL, Leonard

Leonard Siegel of Boynton Beach, Florida, originally of Lawrence, New York, passed away on April 9, 2013 at the age of 93. He is survived by his wife Betty, their 2 sons Alan and Bennett Siegel, daughter Cynthia Siegel Mumford, 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Len graduated from CCNY 1942 as a Mechanical Engineer and worked for Bethlehem Steel prior to entering the Navy in January '43. He was Chief Engineer on two destroyers serving in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters, and remained in the reserves to complete 20 years before retiring as a Commander. After the war he worked for Libby Owens and later as sales manager for Westinghouse Electric Supply. In 1956 he entered the family business at York Feather & Down until his retirement in 1987 as a part owner. Len was an active member of Temple Torah and UJA/Federation. In 1950 Len married Betty, the love of his life. Len and Betty did everything together - traveling extensively around the world, playing bridge and golf, going to the Opera, and entertaining and participating in various charitable and social events. Len will be remembered for his great stories. He had an incredible memory of historical and personal events and his ability to describe these events made him a favorite of those who knew him. He could always put things in the right perspective, always providing a willing and generous counsel and comfort to family and friends. He was like a father to many that knew him. He always kept things "ship shape", with everything very well planned and organized - every day of his life right until his last days. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Service April 12 at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, Boynton Beach, FL.
