Family-Placed Obituary

MARIO MARIANO SOVRAN Mario Mariano Sovran, age 95, died on February 25, 2011. He was born on November 2, 1915 in San Martino al Tagliamento in the north Italian region of Friuli Venezia-Giulia. He trained as a mosaic artist at the world- renown mosaic school of Spilimbergo. His mosaic works adorn many churches in northeast Italy. He was one of five mosaic artists selected from all of Italy to work at the Forum Italico in Rome. For many years, he worked in the New York area, executing works in mosaic and other medium for prestigious companies and well-known individuals. He retired to Florida but kept active, creating many mosaic art pieces, including a plaque of the emblem of Boca Raton, which hangs in the lobby of Boca's police department. Mario is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dr. Lucia Sovran, a retired college professor; daughter Claudia, an attorney; son Dr. Paul Sovran, an internist and geriatric specialist; daughter-in-law Melissa; grandchildren Susanna, David, William and Victoria Sovran. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, March 1, from 3PM to 6PM with a 4PM Scripture Service at Lorne and Sons Funeral Home, 745 NE 6th Ave. (Federal Highway Northbound), Delray Beach. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 2, at 11AM at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 9600 West Atlantic Av., Delray Beach.
