Family-Placed ObituaryMICHAEL ALBERT MANGANELLI A longtime resident of Maplewood, NJ, passed away Friday, June 22, 2012 in West Palm Beach, FL where he and his beloved wife, Anne, made their home for the past twelve years. Michael was born July 20, 1923 in Elizabeth, NJ to Louis and Concettina Manganelli. He attended Thomas Jefferson High School in Elizabeth, NJ, followed by Rutgers University where he earned a B.S. in Chemistry and was a distinguished member of the Glove and Stick Society. He honorably served in the US Army during World War II. After the army he earned an M.S. in Chemistry from Columbia University and a Ph.D in Organic Chemistry from Rutgers University. Later in life Michael earned an MBA from Rutgers University and was admitted to the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. On November 25, 1951, Michael married the love of his life, Anne Vivona, and they raised six children. Michael worked 12 years for Monsanto before joining Mobil Oil, where he rose to the position of Vice President of Research and Development and remained until his retirement in 1993. When not managing large-scale research projects for Mobil Oil, he enjoyed teaching Organic Chemistry and Statistics at Union College. In retirement Michael remained active, enjoying time with family and friends, traveling and trading stocks. Michael is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Anne; adoring children, Denise Manganelli of Princeton, NJ, Douglas Manganelli M.D. and his wife, Deborah of Manasquan, NJ, Monique Manganelli-Orr M.D. and her husband, Robert Orr M.D. of La Jolla, CA, Corinne Manganelli of West Palm Beach, FL, Stephen Manganelli of Maplewood, NJ, and Paul Manganelli M.D and his wife, Amy of Naperville, IL; seven grandchildren, Alexander Orr, Caitlin Manganelli, Anthony Garcia, Michael, Christina, Robert and Douglas Manganelli; his sisters, Emily Davis and Dorothea Sutherland and their families, and the families of his late sister, Margarita King and brother, Dr. Raymond Manganelli. He was an exceptional husband, loving father, grandfather, brother and friend who always put family and faith first. He will be missed and his memory will be cherished. Visitation Friday, June 29, 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Palms West Funeral Home, 110 Business Park Way, Royal Palm Beach, FL. Family and Friends will gather for Mass on Saturday at 11:00 AM at Holy Name Catholic Church, 345 South Military Trail, West Palm Beach, FL.
