Family-Placed Obituary

NEWTON G. PRITCHETT, M.D. Newton G. Pritchett, M.D. died October 13, 2009 in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. He was born March 24, 1919 in Newfoundland, Canada to Rachel and Samuel Pritchett. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret and their children, Barbara Ann Wagoner of Raleigh, NC, Meezie Pierce and her husband, Walter of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and son, Newton of Apex, NC. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Christine Wagoner, Robert and Katie Pritchett and his brother, Michael Pritchett of Cornerbrook, Newfoundland and sisters, Florrie Lannon and Madge Fitzgerald both of Ontario, Canada. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kitchener and sister, Daphne. Dr. Pritchett graduated from Memorial University, St. JohnÌs Newfoundland and received his medical degree from Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia. He served in the Canadian Army during World War II as a Medical Officer in Europe. Dr. Pritchett did post graduate work at the University of Kansas in Kansas City and then in Boston at the Leahy Clinic. Dr. Pritchett began his private practice of internal medicine in 1953 in Raleigh, NC with Dr. Howard Wilson. He had a solo practice for many years before practicing with Drs. William Ginn, Frank Camp, Wayne Smith and Steve Liebowicz. He retired from medical practice in 1988. As a physician, Dr. Pritchett was a leader and active member of his community. He was a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, a member of the American Medical Association as well as various medical groups and societies. Prior to his retirement he was on the attending medical staff of Rex Hospital and Wake Medical Center. He also served on the adjunct faculty at UNC Medical School for a number of years. Dr. Pritchett served in various leadership positions including President of the NC Society of Internal Medicine. He was a member of the West Raleigh Rotary Club for over 30 years. Dr. Pritchett was a member of St. MichaelÌs Episcopal Church and the Carolina Country Club, where he loved to play golf. A private funeral service is planned for the family on October 19, 2009 at St. MichaelÌs Episcopal Church, 1520 Canterbury Road, Raleigh, with interment at the Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Dr. PritchettÌs memory may be sent to Hospice of Palm Beach County at 5300 East Ave., West Palm Beach, FL 33407 or the American Heart Association. Although I did not know Dr. Pritchett
personally I did know his family in Gambo.His mother Rachael lovingly known as Aunt Rachael was a grand lady of our little town.My condolences to the family on the passing of a great man I am sure.

So sorry to learn of the loss of husband, father and grandfather. All though I have never met Newton, I have spent countless hours with Kitchner and he always spoke highly and was so very proud of Newton. You will be in our thoughts and prayers.
