Pauline Grondin Obituary

SANFORD — Pauline B. Grondin, 96, a lifelong resident, died on Thursday, November 20, at the Newton Center.

She was born in Sanford on December 1, 1911, a daughter of William & Alice (Legere) Bourque.

Pauline attended the former St. Ignatius school and was a graduate of St. Ignatius Commercial School in 1928.

Mrs. Grondin was employed at the former Sanford Textile Mills and Allied and Universal Shoe Companies. She also worked for the town clerk's office as an election clerk. She was the former secretary of the St. Ignatius High School Boosters Club from 1956 to 1965.

Pauline was a longtime communicant of St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish at St. Ignatius Church. She was a member of the Ladies of Ste. Anne and the American Legion Aux. and R.S.V.P.

She enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles, cooking, beano, and playing cards.

Her husband, Oscar J., whom she married on July 4, 1941, died in 1985. Her son, Richard, died in 2003. Her five siblings, Exilda Bourque, Anita Ryder (Dart), Paul Bourque, Walter Bourque and Yvon Bourque, died previously.

Survivors are two sons, Ronald O. Grondin and his wife, Sylvia, and Robert W. Grondin and his wife, Lorraine, both of Sanford; daughter-in-law, Joanne Grondin; 7 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours were on Sunday, November 23, at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home at 29 Winter Street in Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, November 24, in St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish at Holy Family Church. Burial was to follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to either the Newton Center Activity Fund, 35 July St. Sanford, Maine 04073 or to the Mayflower Place, 27 Mayflower Dr., Sanford, Maine 04073.
