He leaves to cherish his memory his late brother Harold's wife Marion, of Carolina, RI, his nieces and their husbands and sons, and his many Rhode Island life-long friends. He will be missed by his good neighbors and friends of thirty-five years in South Holland, IL, as well as his late wife Mary's family and their friends in the Chicago-land area; especially William M. Uhlarik, now of Corpus Christi, TX and the Reverend Peter J. Muha of St. Edward Catholic Church, Lowell, IN “Éwho were like sons to me and Mary.”, and his “guardian angel” and devoted loyal friend in Jupiter, as well as Jo'an's family and friends in Lincoln, NE. He worked for the B&O Railroad, mostly in Chicago, retiring in 1987. Bob and Mary loved to travel and enjoyed time annually with family in Sweden and Poland and traveled all over the world. He was an avid gardener and die-hard St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan. After retirement, Bob devoted three days a week to tutoring inner-city children in Math and Science with the Archdiocese of Chicago. Bob was a daily communicant at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, in South Holland, IL; he and his wife Mary were founding members of the Parish in 1963. Bob also volunteered with the ministry of Mother Teresa's Sisters in Chicago. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday July 7, 2007 at 10:30am at St. Peter Catholic Church, 1701 Indian Creek Pkwy., Jupiter, FL 33458. There will be a viewing at the Church, where his son, Father David Downey will receive friends and visitors forty-five minutes prior to the Mass. Final Commendation Prayers will take place next week at the Our Lady of Czestochowa Chapel at the Mausoleum of Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Chicago, with interment to follow in the family plot. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the St. Peter Catholic Church Building Fund appreciated.
