Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Scott R. McHugh US Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.
We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

"Dear McHugh Family and Friends.
I first read about Scott in the Staten Island advance on September 11, 2011 Titled "SI Sons who gave all in the war on terror". There was a reference with troop 74. My name is Tim Donnelly. Myself and a couple of friends restored the Scouting Program at Sacred Heart. Pack and Troop 74 is back and has been running well for the past 3 + years. As a project the Boy Scouts restored the 911 memorial at Sacred Heart Church. This weekend May 6 we are having a ceremony adding Scott's memory to the fold of 911 victims of the Parish. Three Bleeding Heart Bushes were planted in Scott's Name. If there is anyone in the area of Staten Island on May 6th, 2012, the ceremony will start after the 1130 mass. I apoligise for the short notice and i hope this message finds you well..."

Hi to all who knew and loved Scott. He helped me decide to go back into the Navy Reserves after raising my family and working as a secretary at AMR in WPB, FL. E4 and below would get all the dirty work: we sat up tables and chairs for lunch, then took them all down; we were on details of sweeping and mopping the floors so that we could all go home sunday after our once a month committment. We rubbed elbows at lunch and in classes. Other than that, I didn't know much about his personal life. Just reading this book tells me alot. This week at the Post Office, they have all the plaques up that say "An Army Wifes prayer, or A mothers prayer. I found one who said this is my hero.
MY ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT I CANNOT FIND A PHOTO OF HIM TO PUT IN THE 4X6" SPOT.
I went to the fallensoldiers.com website but the photo seems small, I tried to archive the PALM BEACH POST, but only find the obit.
Is there someone out there who has a picture of him in uniform that can send me a copy in an email? [email protected]
Thanks, YN3 Callahan

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers today.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Scott, but I am remembering on
this day he gave his all.
He is my hero.

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

To All Parents
“I’ll lend you for a little time a child of Mine,” He said.
“For you to love the While he lives and mourn for when he’s dead.
It may be six or seven years, or 22 or three,
But will you, till I call him back, take care of him for me?
He’ll bring his charms to gladden you, and shall his stay be brief.
You’ll have his lovely memories as solace and relief.
“I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return,
But there are some lessons taught down there I want this child to learn.
I’ve looked the wide world over in my search for teachers true
And from the throngs that crowd life’s lanes I have selected you.
Now will you give him all your love, nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate Me when I come to take him back again?”
For all the joy Thy child shall bring, the risk of grief we’ll run.
We’ll shelter him with tenderness, we’ll love him while we may
And for the happiness we’ve known forever grateful stay;
But shall the angels call for him much sooner than we’ve planned.
We’ll brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand.”

As an active member of the U.S. Navy. I am constantly reminded of the dangers, the sacrifices, and hardships we all endure, but every single person that pays the ultimate sacrifice upon the altar of freedom that we as Americans enjoy every day, I am both saddened and supremely proud of their great love for country and humanity. As a 23-yeard old myself, it's strange browsing these websites and seeing the names and ages of soldiers my own age who died overseas fighting for our country.
I never knew Scott, but he was no doubt a courageous person. He, like all of the other troops, deserve to be remembered and appreciated for making the ultimate sacrifice.
To Scott’s family, I can’t see how any words would give you comfort over losing your child. All I can say is that your son is in an elite group of people who won’t ever be forgotten, and whose sacrifice will forever be appreciated. Because people like Scott exist, all of us can be free. My thoughts are with you.

I want to say first of all how proud of this young man and I'm so very sorry for his families loss. I want the family to know that I am very proud of each and every person who fights for our rights here and gives us the freedom to live like we live. I have a brother right now serving in Kwait and I worry each and every day for him and everyone over there. I want to say that you have a very special place in my heart and thank you very much.

Dear family and friends of Scott R. McHugh, I just learned of Scotts passing today. I met Scott in high school (SRHS'89) and we became friends and 'fishing buddies'. Even then Scott knew he had a higher calling, and wanted to serve his country. Scott was a kind person, a good friend, and will always be remembered as a hero!

Our family celebrated Independence Day yesterday. We know that our celebration was bought by a price of young service members like PO2 McHugh. From a Florida and Navy family, we say "thank you".

To the McHugh Family,
It’s hard to say good bye, but for me and the other Seabees that were left behind. Scott never left us; he protected us from dawn to dusk and for the long convoys across the worst lands in Iraq until we stepped off that plane back home. We miss him and the others who gave their lives to protect this nation. My thoughts and prays will always be with you.

The McHugh Family,
I met Scott for the first time, last year during my annual training. With his friendly personality and keen sense of humor, we quickly became friends. My thoughts and heart-felt prayers go out to your family. He is truly missed.
