Vivian Savage Obituary

Family-Placed Obituary

VIVIAN CALHOUN SAVAGE 'The Flower Lady' Born September 9, 1918 was called to rest in the dawn of December 20, 2008. After a massive stroke, Vivian slept peacefully until the Lord called her soul to her final resting place. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, love and faith. In her life, Vivian gave back to others, planting flowers and plants in the yards of families that did not have gardens, educating young children, also functioning as their caregiver, serving the Lord, providing leadership to the youth, and giving back to the community, serving as an activist through her commitment to various organizations, including Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporate. Her commitment has made her existence indelible to all who knew her. Vivian was an educator in the Palm Beach County School District for 17 years before retiring and traveling extensively to such places as Hawaii, Italy, Greece and Egypt, to name a few. Her former students recall how she cared for them. One student still talks of how she would leave a quarter on the edge of her desk everyday for the student to 'take'. She is survived by three children, Brenda Durden (Cliff), Irvin Howard (Geo Gee), and Nina Holland, ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of relatives, family and friends. The Wake will be held Friday, December 26, 2008 at 5 PM, at Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church, 1220 Pioneer Rod, Mangonia Park. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 27, 2008, at 11 AM at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 2006 A.E. Isaacs Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL. All floral arrangements, cards and donations, should be forwarded to Straghn and Sons, Tri-City Funeral Home, 26 Fifth Avenue Delray Beach Florida 33444.
