Family-Placed Obituary

WALTER WESTER, Jr. August 21, 1937 - March 5, 2012 It has pleased Almighty God in his omniscience and omnipotence to call our dearly beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin and confidant from labor in this earthly vineyard to the reward of his eternal resting place. Walter Wester, Jr. was the first born of nine children of Riviera Beach Pioneers, the late Walter Wester, Sr. and Hazel Fisher Wester. Proceeded him in death was his brother, William Floyd Wester. He accepted Christ at an early age and became an active member of the family's church, Allen Temple A.M.E. of Riviera Beach, FL, where he faithfully attended Sunday School. He later joined the New Hope Baptist Church of Asbury Park, NJ and served as a Deacon and Trustee. He was educated in the Palm Beach County School System, attended Roosevelt High School, his favorite teacher was Mrs. Ineria Hudnell. At the age of 17 he joined the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Jackson, SC, Fort Lewis, WA and Fairbanks, AK. After being Honorably Discharged Walter returned to Riviera Beach before moving and establishing residence in Asbury Park, NJ. Walter Wester, Jr. was a Community Activist and exemplary leader in the community of Asbury Park, NJ. Unwavering in his struggle to better his community he became the Director of the Asbury Park Housing Authority. Consequently, he ran for City Commissioner of Asbury Park and throughout his tenure he assisted in the development of a Community Center, Checkmate, Police Benevolent Association and instrumental in getting the first Black City Attorney appointed. Walter Wester, Jr. was an entrepreneur, owner and founder of Wester Realty. He was best known for his spirit of giving. He had an open hand for giving and not a closed fist for selfishness, Walter Wester, Jr. was a major supporter of St. James Baptist Church, Riviera Beach, FL. He leaves to treasure his memories, loving and devoted wife of 40 years, Gloria Kinsey Wester; five daughters, Dale Wester, Lori Cunningham, Tammie McCullough (Charlie), Trena Wester Stackman (Robert) and Brigette Wester; five grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Williamson (Cyrus), Rita E. Shipp and Sharon Sheely (Michael); four brothers, James, Richard (Chief), Robert and Larry Wester; one aunt, Mildred McCray; two special family friends, Laura D.
