Barbara Brooks Phillips

July 14, 1951 - March 12, 2025

Barbara Brooks Phillips, age 73, of Bloomington, Ill., passed away peacefully at 5:39 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Carle BroMenn Medical Center in Normal, Ill. A visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home in Bloomington, Ill., followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m. officiated by her beloved niece, The Reverend Emily Anderson Lukanich. A private inurnment will take place at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery Columbarium in Bloomington, Ill. The family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Midwest Food Bank.

Barbara was born on July 14, 1951, in Urbana, Ill., to Adolph and Imogene O'Neal Brooks. She was a devoted wife to David J. Phillips, whom she married on August 14, 1976, in Bloomington, Ill. David survives her, cherishing the decades of love and companionship they shared.

Barbara is also survived by her son, Brooks Phillips of Bloomington, Ill.; and her four cherished grandchildren: Cole, Kylie, Finley, and Sawyer Phillips, all of Bloomington, Ill. She leaves behind two sisters, Janet Brooks (Jonathan J.) Anderson of Charleston, S.C., and Sharol (Charles) Brandt of Anchorage, Alaska.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Peggy Stacy.

A proud alumna of Bloomington High School, class of 1969, Barbara went on to graduate from Stephens College in Columbia, Mo. Her career journey took her back to Bloomington, where she thrived in retail before finding her niche as a food broker. Above all, Barbara found the greatest joy in her family, who were the center of her world.

Barbara was an accomplished quilter, known for her stunning creations that were true works of art. She found peace and happiness in her flower garden and delighted in swimming with her cherished circle of friends. Together with Dave, Barbara enjoyed numerous trips to Charleston, S.C. and Folly Beach, S.C. creating beautiful memories with family.

Barbara's warmth, creativity, and kindness touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Dave,
So sorry to read of Barb´s passing. I will always remember our ISU season basketball tickets next to your family for several years at Redbird Arena and many times running into you both at Schooners having dinner. Whatever the occasion, Barb always had a smile on her face and a warm welcome. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
