Beth E. Maier

October 1, 1935 - September 25, 2024

FAIRBURY - Beth E. Maier, 88, died peacefully in Fairbury on September 25, 2024.

A graveside service will be held at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the South Apostolic Christian Cemetery (300 North Road, Fairbury). Everyone is invited to attend and join us for a time of food and fellowship afterward.

Calvert & Martin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Beth was born in Lincoln, IL, on October 1, 1935, to Alfred and Lorene Tomlinson. She married Vernon D. Maier in Forrest on August 24, 1958. Vernon passed on November 24, 2020. Beth's parents and infant daughter Betsy also preceded her in death.

Surviving are her children, Sally (Larry) Bemount of Paxton and Marcus (Patty) of Forrest; her grandchildren, Heidi Maier of Milwaukee, WI, Ben Maier of Forrest, Gretchen Maier of Milwaukee, WI, and Caleb Bemount of Paxton; sister-in-law, Thelma Maier of Fairbury; niece Carla (Curtis) Stoller of Gridley; and special friend Becki (Barry) Garard of Dunlap, TN.

Beth attended elementary school in Rutland until 1945 when her family moved to Forrest. She graduated from Forrest-Strawn-Wing (FSW) in 1953. Later, Beth attended Secretarial School in Joliet. She worked many miscellaneous jobs including State Farm (typist), TWA (reservation agent), and Honegger's (office and hatchery worker, egg gatherer). Beth also earned an Associate's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation at Parkland and worked as an Activities Director for Helen Lewis Smith Pavilion in Fairbury and later helped part time in Activities at Heritage Health in Bloomington. Beth was also a member of the Forrest American Legion Auxiliary and was involved with the American Lung Association for many years.

Over the years, Beth helped Vernon on the farm. Together, they hosted numerous agricultural exchange students and enjoyed lifelong friendships with them and their families. Beth also enjoyed reading, people watching, and reminiscing.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

I was a volunteer at Helen Lewis Smith in the 80's, and Beth was my first boss. She was always so kind to me, and the residents loved her. Sending peace and love to your family.
