Betty Shannon Obituary

Betty J. (Miller) Shannon

July 17, 1927 - September 17, 2025

Betty J. (Miller) Shannon 98, of Heyworth, Illinois passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 17, 2025. Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Heyworth is handling arrangements.

Betty was born July 17, 1927, in Stanford, IL, a daughter of Marshall and Beulah Miller. She married the love of her life, Earl E. Shannon on October 30, 1947. Together they built a life filled with family, love, and faith.

Betty was deeply devoted to her family. She especially cherished her many nieces and nephews and was known for never missing the chance to send a birthday card. She was also a lifelong cat lover, earning the affectionate title of "the best cat lover ever" from those who knew her best.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Earl; her siblings Billy Miller, Doris Morris, Sid Miller, Millie Bicknell, Joyce Erdman, Marilyn Scogin, and Sally Miller.

Betty was blessed with many dear friends from the First Baptist Church of Heyworth, where her faith remained a guiding light throughout her life.

A service to honor Betty's life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the First Baptist Church in Heyworth. Burial will be in Heyworth Cemetery at a later date.

Betty will be remembered for her kindness, her devotion to loved ones, and her ability to bring warmth and joy to all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the First Baptist Church, Heyworth, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 624, or the Heyworth Fire and EMT.

I knew Betty from the YWCA in Bloomington. She always had a smile on her face. Very positive.
Prayers to her friends and family.
