Clarence "Leroy" Cook

TOLUCA - Clarence "Leroy" Cook, 81, of rural Toluca, Ill. passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.

Leroy was born on September 27, 1943, to Floyd and Neva (Hattan) Cook. He married Candace Joy Clanin on July 22, 1967.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Eugene Cook.

He loved his family dearly. He leaves behind his wife of almost 58 years; his three children, Kevin (Jennifer) of Toluca, Ill., Kristin (Joe) Tarrence of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Korey (Lynn) of Toluca, Ill.; his eight grandchildren, Travis, Landon (Kaitlyn Carver), Nathan and Dallas Cook, Emma and Avery Tarrence, Kolton White and Kylee Cook; a great grandchild, Kole White; a sister, Joyce (Joe) Goggin; and many nieces and nephews.

Leroy was a 4th generation farmer. He loved farming. His dad bought him his first Ford tractor at the age of 10. He graduated from the last graduating class of Larose High School in 1961. He was in the Army Reserves from 1964-1970. He was a trustee for the Bell Plain Township for 20 years. Leroy enjoyed many activities, including spending time with family and friends ~ playing euchre "uptown" every morning, 50 years of snowmobile trips~ especially enjoying the "guys" annual trips where he was referred to as "Chief". He loved being "Papa" to his grandkids and has always been a huge part of their lives. He was blessed to be surrounded by his family in the days preceding his death.

Visitation will be at Calvert & Johnson Memorial Home in Toluca, Ill. on Saturday, May 3, 2025 from 9 to 11 a.m., the funeral following at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Crow Meadow Presbyterian Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Eastern Marshall County EMS.
