Collector Brijnandanlal Saksena
Oct. 20, 1935 - Dec. 25, 2023
BLOOMINGTON - Collector Brijnandanlal Saksena, a distinguished and compassionate individual, bid farewell to this world on December 25, 2023, at the age of 88. Born on October 20, 1935, in Bombay, India, Collector's life was an array of remarkable achievements, boundless love, and selfless service to his community.
Growing up in Ville Parle, in the cherished family home named Braj Bhumi, Collector's early life was enriched by the warmth of his parents, Ruprani and Brijbasilal Saksena. His unique name, Collector, bestowed by his grandfather, reflected a connection to government roles - a tradition embraced by his family. From a young age, Collector displayed a love for life, enjoying activities such as swimming, playing tennis, teaching chess and billiards. Later in life, he developed a fondness for the game show "Wheel of Fortune".
A dedicated scholar, Collector excelled academically at Saint Xavier College, University of Mumbai, earning his Bachelor's degree. He continued his education at Grant Government Medical College in India, where he distinguished himself as a top student. His commitment to medicine took him to the United States during the Vietnam War, where he completed a medical internship in New Jersey. Subsequently, he pursued residency in Arizona and a one-year fellowship in Ohio.
In 1967, Collector embarked on a new chapter in his life, where he welcomed his first daughter, Seema, and first son, Rahul, into the world. In July 1972, Collector moved to Bloomington, becoming one of the first to establish a private pediatric practice in the Bloomington-Normal area, affiliated with Bromenn Hospital - a testament to his commitment to providing healthcare to rural communities. It was during this time that he and his wife, Kamlesh Saksena, joyously welcomed their second son, Dileep, into their loving family. Collector devoted 35 years to pediatric care, leaving an everlasting mark on the lives of countless families before retiring in 2007.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Collector was an active member of the community, contributing to the Rotary Club, the Hindu Temple, and participating in laughing yoga. His dedication to service extended to every facet of his life.
On December 25, 2023, Collector peacefully passed away at 6:43 pm at Carle Foundation Hospital in Champaign, IL.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kamlesh Saksena; his daughter, Seema Saxena; two sons: Rahul Saksena and Dileep Saksena, his sister, Priyamvada; his son-in-law, Sanjay Saxena; and two grandchildren: Sanjana Saxena and Siddhant Saxena.

Praise God
My heart is crushed. I heard this news right before his funeral today. I rushed there to show my support to him and his beautiful wife. I can't explain how much I love them. Dr. Saksena took good care of all seven of my children. He always made sure he took his time to diagnose them. Without him my children would have been lost. His patience, love, caring and peaceful spirit will always be apart of us. He gave me a job in his office as a clinical assistant. I loved it, working under him and Mrs. Saksena they treated me like their daughter. I am s sorry he had to depart from this world. My heart and prayers go out to his beautiful wife and family. I am here to do anything I can for Mrs. Saksena no matter what it is. May his soul rest. I love you all Amen.
