Darwin McClure Obituary

Darwin Dean McClure

July 14, 1938 - July 14, 2025

Darwin McClure, 87 of Danvers, IL passed away peacefully at OSF St. Joseph Hospital in Bloomington, IL on July 14, 2025, at 3.44 a.m.

He was born in Oak Park, IL to Dean and Irene McClure. Darwin was blessed with two mothers. His birth mother Irene passed away when he was 6 years old. Three years later Dean married Catherine McClure who became his bonus mother. He married his beloved wife Sheryl (Yoder) McClure on May 6, 1966, at North Danvers Mennonite Church in Danvers, IL. They have one daughter Rhonda (Casey) Watson of Mackinaw, IL.

Also surviving are his granddaughters, Allison Miller, Emma Miller, and Madison Watson. His two great grandchildren are Finley Mathena, and Valley Watson Hess. Brother Dennis (Sandi) McClure; Sister Deanelle (Ronnie) Schieber; Brother David (Colleen) McClure and numerous nieces and nephews he was proud of.

He was proceeding in death by his father Dean McClure, Mother Irene McClure, Mother Catherine McClure, and Brother Donald McClure.

Darwin worked at Mclean County Asphalt and Concrete for 32 years. He was a proud fifty-year member of the Operating Engineers Union Local 649. He also worked part time at Spencer's Garage in Danvers for many years. He loved working on cars from an early age. He would tinker in his garage after work. Either making something, fixing something, or visiting with whomever stopped over to his garage. He loved camping and boating with family and friends at the Kingston View campground on the Illinois River for 53 years.

Those that knew Darwin will remember he was a hardworking, honest, kind, helping man. With his blue eyes like his dad's and his sarcastic sense of humor. He wanted people to remember him as man who was firm, but fair. Remembering he was a man who took pride in his work, friends, and family. Also leave this world with a little respect. Being an honorable husband, father, and grandfather. He wanted everyone to remember him with a smile and not a frown.

A Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, July 26th, 2025, at the First Presbyterian Church in Danvers, IL. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Followed by the Celebration of Life from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Danvers or Danvers Fire and Rescue.
