Fr. David Roche

1932 - 2025

Fr. David F. Roche, 92, of Pontiac, IL, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at St. Joseph Hospital in Bloomington.

He was born November 30, 1932, in Peoria, to William J. and Jessie Rasey Roche.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Father David was ordained to the priesthood on June 1, 1958. Over the course of his long and devoted ministry, he faithfully served many parishes and communities throughout Illinois. He began his priestly service as assistant at Sacred Heart in Moline and St. Mary's in Westville before moving to Immaculate Conception in Spring Valley in 1965 and St. Patrick's in Washington in 1969. He also ministered as chaplain at St. Margaret's Hospital in Spring Valley, later becoming pastor of St. Mary's in Delavan and St. Joseph's in Hopedale in 1971. His service continued as chaplain at Mercy Hospital in Urbana in 1973 and as co-pastor of St. Patrick's in Urbana. In the years following, he guided the faithful at Sacred Heart in Farmer City and St. John's in Bellflower, and later resided at St. Bernard's in Peoria. He went on to pastor St. Mary's in Princeville and serve as chaplain at St. James Hospital in Pontiac beginning in 1991. Father Roche was granted senior priest status in 2003, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering faith, dedication, and service to the people of God.

Funeral mass will be held at St. Thomas Catholic Church on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at 10:30 a.m., with The Most Reverand Louis Tylka, Bishop of Peoria officiating. Visitation will be held prior to mass, beginning at 9 a.m. at the church. Burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery in West Peoria at 1:45 p.m.
