Douglas Allen "Doug" Dyson, age 68, of Normal, IL, passed away peacefully at 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington, IL.
Doug was born on July 19, 1957, in Champaign, IL, to George William and Mary Frances Dobbs Dyson. He grew up in Findlay, OH, before graduating high school, he attended the American School in Switzerland.
On March 6, 1982, Doug married Deidre Joy "DeDe" Steidinger in Bloomington, IL. He is survived by DeDe, his loving wife of over 43 years; their two daughters, Holly (Jesse) Rednour of Sadorus, IL, and Meghan (Joshua) Herring of Bloomington, IL; and five cherished grandchildren, Joshua, Brooke, Joslyn, Harrison, and Eloise. He is also survived by his brother, Bill (Susannah) Dyson of Carmel, IN. Doug was preceded in death by his parents.
Doug dedicated much of his career to the lumber and building products industry, working for Hundman Lumber in Bloomington for many years before joining Alexander Lumber Company, and later LS Building Products in East Peoria. He retired in December 2023 after a long and respected career.
An avid sports fan, Doug was a proud member of the Busch Fantasy Baseball League and a devoted St. Louis Cardinals baseball enthusiast. He enjoyed visiting various baseball parks and treasured spending time with his grandson Joshua attending Illinois State University basketball games.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, IL. The memorial service will follow at 12 Noon the same day, officiated by Rev. Steve Evans. Burial will be at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Bloomington, IL.
The family kindly suggests Memorial Contributions be made to the American Cancer Society in Doug's memory.
