Jerrie Lou Jeter, age 79, peacefully departed this life on January 23, 2026. Born on September 18, 1946, in Wichita Falls, Texas, Jerrie was the cherished daughter of Edward Powell and Marilyn Joan (Worley) Powell.
For many years, she was a member of Sunny Side Baptist Church in Wichita Falls, Texas. Jerrie dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her family, working tirelessly as a housewife and nurturing her loved ones. A passionate cook, Jerrie loved embarking on travels and cherished her time at estate sales. Above all, her grandchildren held a special place in her heart.
Jerrie was predeceased by her devoted husband of 59 years, Melvyn Jeter in 2024; and her beloved granddaughter, Sydnee Jeter; her parents, Edward and Joan Powell; and her sister, Barbara Yoakum; and by her parents-in-law, W.L. and Evelyn Jeter.
She is survived by her four loving children: Stephanie Paige Potts and husband, Michael, of Hillsboro, Ore., Jeffery William Jeter and wife, Pamela, of Fate, Texas, Gerald Whitten Jeter and wife, Karen, of Cody, Wyo., and Jamie Henry Jeter and wife, Teri, of Wapella, Ill.
Her legacy lives on through her six grandchildren: Mikhaila Watkis and husband, Kirk, and Zachary Potts, both of Hillsboro, Ore.; Jason Henry Jeter of Wapella, Ill.; Paige Erin Jeter and partner, Luis Giraldo, of Clinton, Ill.; Alyssa Campbell and husband, Ben, of Morton, Ill.; and Derreck Jeter of Washington, D.C. Additionally, Jerrie is survived by five great-grandchildren: Madelyn Giraldo, Evelyn Giraldo, Ruth Watkis, Walter Watkis, and Luellen Watkis.
A funeral ceremony will take place at 12 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026, at the Galbreaith Pickard Hilltop Chapel in Willow Park, Texas, with visitation commencing one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Annetta Cemetery in Annetta, Texas.
Jerrie Lou Jeter will be dearly missed by her family and friends, remembered for her warmth, kindness, and everlasting love.

My condolences on Jerrie's passing. I often spoke with Jerrie as I worked closely with Melvyn, her husband, at IWU. I remember them both with great fondness.
