Judith Boudreaux Obituary

Judith Clare Dean Boudreaux, age 86, passed from this life on November 12, 2025 in Bloomington, IL after succumbing to a lengthy course of Alzheimer's-type dementia. Judy was born on September 1, 1939 in Cincinnati, OH, the daughter of Charles F. Dean and Anna Elizabeth Westfall Dean. She married Veltin Joseph Boudreaux, Jr., her childhood sweetheart, on July 10, 1962-a loving, dedicated 63-year marriage. Dr. Boudreaux survives. Two children: Charles Titus Boudreaux (Janet Titus), Normal, IL and Elisabeth Salt (Jim), Newark, DE. Two grandchildren: Jonathan Charles Titus Boudreaux, St. Charles, IL and William Joseph Gabriel Salt, Newark, DE.

Judy attended Southern Methodist University, where she studied English, French, and biology, and was admitted to the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. She also earned three advanced degrees: The Master of Arts in English and the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing, both from Wichita State University, and the Master of Science in Employee Assistance from Friends University, Wichita. The latter degree, and ensuing service at Via Christi Health System's EAP, were achieved in tandem with her husband. She was on a lifelong quest of the Divine, ranging from leadership in lay education to advanced theological coursework. She was a professed member of New Covenant Community in Bloomington, Illinois.

Judy was inherently creative. She wrote short stories, a 3-act comedy, and poems, with the broadest distribution via the Journal of the American Medical Association's "Poetry and Medicine" section and subsequent poetry anthology, "Uncharted Lines." Judy was also a devoted spouse, mother, and grandmother who brought psychology and unconditional love into her family. She enjoyed going to restaurants, the movies, and traveling. Judy was connected to her German and Irish heritages and particularly enjoyed Irish music. She is mourned by those whose lives she touched and will be missed very much.

A Celebration of Life will occur on Sunday, December 14 at 10:30 a.m. at New Covenant Community, located at Centennial Christian Church, 1219 E. Grove Street, Bloomington, IL 61701. Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross, or to New Covenant Community at the above address. The family extends its gratitude to the staff of Luther Oaks Retirement Community and Transitions Hospice for the loving care they provided to Judy.

Vel and Family, I am so sorry to see that Judy has died. I remember the good years with our house church in Wichita. I remember your leadership contributions and the humor and spunk that Judy contributed. Those were her trademarks. I hope that the Creator lays a healing, comforting hand on the hearts of those who loved her.
