Mary Steege

Sept. 6, 1930 - Jan. 31, 2021

BLOOMINGTON - Mary Steege, 90, of Bloomington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at the Hopedale Nursing Home in Hopedale, IL.

She was born on September 6, 1930 in Delavan, IL, the daughter of Florence Austin and Hubert Joseph Fisher. She married Dale Steege on March 3, 1956. He preceded her in death on July 12, 1990. She was also preceded in death by an infant son; four sisters: Helen Fisher, Julia Sullivan, Elizabeth Bailey, Jo Blobaum and two brothers: Jim and Hubert Fisher. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Mary graduated from Delavan High School in 1948. She graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing and had a long career as a nurse. First, for over 34 years as a private nurse for Dr. George McNeely and then at St. Joseph's Hospital and Heritage Health. She would often work holidays, so people with children could spend the day with their families.

Mary was a member of Holy Trinity Church for over 70 years where she volunteered for many years. She also volunteered for the St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary and Heritage Manor, and the American Red Cross.

Mary was always up for a trip to the boat or watching her beloved Cubs beat the Cardinals!!

The family would like to thank everyone at Hopedale Medical Complex for their outstanding care. Everyone treated her like family (which they were for six years). It gave her family peace knowing she was being so well taken care of. We would also like to thank the Black Family who were her neighbors on Locust Street for many years.

A funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 4, 2021 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Delavan. Msgr. Timothy Nolan will officiate.

Visitation will be from 9:15 to 9:45 a.m. Thursday, February 4, 2021 at the church.

Burial will be in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Bloomington. The funeral can be viewed live on Davis-Oswald Funeral Home Facebook page. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Delavan is handling the arrangements.

Instead of flowers memorials may be made to: Nursing Scholarship Program at Hopedale Medical Complex, 107 E. Tremont St., Hopedale, IL 61747.

Mary was such a loving soul ! I enjoyed going to weekly mass with Mary, rooting for the Cubs with Mary and reminiscing about days gone by with Mary. It was truly a joy to have been able to spend the last 6 years with her and I trust she is with our loving creator praying for those of us left behind! Until we meet again! RIP.

Thank you for keeping us up dated through the years. Linda Roth & I had some good times with her and Linda's Aunt Helen who worked with her @ Dr. MeNeely's office. She was always a joy and a good nurse . Her missions here are done. With the Covid epidemic we are all staying close to home. Sending our love and sympathy . The St Joseph's Nurses's Alumnae

Always enjoyed visiting with Aunt Mary about her happy times with her husband Dale and things that they did together. She always talked about her love of the Chicago Cubs.
