Phyllis Myers Obituary

Phyllis J. (nee Gemberling) Myers

September 10, 1942 - June 1, 2025

Phyllis J. (nee Gemberling) Myers, 82, formerly of Armington, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2025, at Hopedale Nursing Home. She had been ill for 12 years with lymphoma/anemia.

She was born at Deaconess Hospital September 10, 1942, in Lincoln, Ill. She married Jerry L. Myers on June 29, 1962, in Minier; and he passed away January 23, 2006.

Phyllis is survived by her brother, Jim (Candy) Gemberling of Pekin; many nieces and nephews; and special friends.

Twenty-five years of traveling between Salem, Ore., and Normal, Ill., cemented an unending friendship that lasts through to this day with the Charnholme family: Anne Marie, Jim, Megan, Amy, and Harlan and Roger Pug.

Phyllis was grandma to her precious babies! Thirteen solo Amtrak rides ended with covid, but the frequent correspondence never stopped.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip D. and Gladys Greathouse Gemberling; her nieces, Rebecca Hastings and Dawn Myers; her stepfather, John L. Luft; her sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Gib Hastings.

She retired from the honors program at Illinois State University and taught in her ceramic shop. She previously worked as a secretary to Dr. Watterson.

Phyllis loved her Lord, her travels by Amtrak, her family and friends. She's watching over you, so behave!

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at St. John's United Church of Christ in Minier. Beth Fasse will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, at the St. John's Fellowship Hall. Burial will be in Minier Cemetery. Haensel-Oswald Funeral Home in Minier is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Minier Library or St. John's United Church of Christ.
