GREENFIELD, IN - Roger D. Mitchell, 96, of Greenfield, passed away on August 12, 2024. He was born on January 17, 1928, in Eureka, IL to Roger and Ellen (Hughes) Mitchell. He was a graduate of Eureka High School and earned his higher education from Eureka College.
Roger served in the United States Army as a Sargent in Korea for 2 years. He operated a Standard Oil Service Station in Fortville. Most of his life was spent in various sales positions. He retired in 1995 from the mailroom at USA Group.
Roger was a member of Fortville Christian Church and the Fortville F & AM Lodge No. 207. He became a mason in 1953 and was elected master in 1967. Roger was an avid reader and historian and was dedicated to war history. He was persistent in continuing to learn math skills and loved word searches, which he always carried with him. He enjoyed watching Westerns and his box set of All Creatures Great and Small. Roger was a gracious tenant of Spinghurst Health Campus in Greenfield since 2019. He always voiced his appreciation for the care he received there.
Roger is survived by his children Paul Mitchell and Elaine Files. He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Rosamond "Rosie" (Wolverton) Mitchell.
Friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 26, 2024, at Seals Funeral Home, 122 W. Staat Street, Fortville, IN 46040. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 26, 2024, at the funeral home. Burial next to his wife will follow at Gravel Lawn Cemetery.
