Shirley Ann Lawless, 85, passed away on Friday November 14, 2025, at Goldwater Care, Bloomington.

Shirley was born to parents Eric Charles Adams and Mary Florence Redmond on November 15, 1939, in Daund, Maharashtra, India.

She met her husband, John Leslie Lawless, when he was working as a locomotive driver. They were married on April 29, 1971, and immigrated to the United States in 1979.

Shirley had a strong work ethic and often maintained a couple of jobs at the same time to help provide for her family. She worked in housekeeping at State Farm Insurance for over 20 years and also worked the same role at BroMenn Hospital. Her coworkers admired her dedication and friendliness, and were devastated when she was forced to retire in 2015 due to health concerns.

After decades of saving, she and her husband purchased their well-deserved first home in 2010. She was very proud of it and enjoyed visiting with her friendly neighbors.

Shirley treasured keeping in touch with relatives abroad, remembering their birthdays without fail. The trips she made to India and Australia to visit family were especially memorable to her. When family and friends would visit her, she would spend the whole day in the kitchen cooking delicious Indian food for all to enjoy.

She was a proud mother to her only child, Sean, spoiling him at every opportunity and raving about his accomplishments to those around her. She missed him dearly when he went away to college and then when he moved to Chicago, but visited him frequently and always made sure her son knew he was loved.

Shirley was preceded in her death by her husband John; and siblings Alan, Peter, and Pamela.

She is survived by her son Sean.

Her Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am, Thursday November 20th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Bloomington, with Rev. Bowan Schmitt officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 pm on Wednesday at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington. Interment will immediately follow services at Evergreen Cemetery, Bloomington.
