KIRKWOOD, Missouri - Stephen R. Weaber, age 73, passed away on November 20, 2023, in St. Louis, MO. He was born on August 5, 1950, in Peoria, IL.
Stephen was a beloved husband, brother, and uncle, survived by his husband, Robert (Rob) Thompson of Kirkwood, MO; his brother, Richard (Ric) Weaber of Orlando, FL; and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary McCoy Weaber; his father, Joe Weaber; and his sister, Leah Wurtsbaugh.
Stephen, known to his friends as Steve, was an easygoing and kind-hearted soul. He had a positive outlook on life and always had something good to say about everyone. Steve was always willing to lend a helping hand, even to strangers in need. His thoughtfulness and generosity were well-known, and his nieces and nephews were fortunate recipients of his kind gifts. Steve was involved with Junior Achievement as a student and managed a home for the organization as an adult.
In his career, Steve worked as a manager of independently owned nurseries. He spent many years at Casey's Nursery in Bloomington, IL, before relocating to St. Louis, MO, where he managed Ahner's Nursery. Steve's passion for gardening extended beyond his profession, as he took great pleasure in working in his own beautiful garden.
Outside of work, Steve had a few hobbies that brought him joy. He had a keen interest in antiquing, specializing in metalwork, particularly bronzes. He also enjoyed delving into his family history, uncovering and preserving his ancestral roots. Steve was a fascinating storyteller and preserved the family history by doing so.
Steve's interest in travel began as a college student when he studied abroad and went to Greece, England and France, to name a few. He also enjoyed seeing history as he travelled the United States. His travel included many countries around the world like Egypt, Hong Kong, China, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico.
Steve completed his high school education at University High School in Normal, IL. He then pursued higher education at Illinois State University in Normal and Northwestern University in Chicago.
In memory of Stephen Weaber, donations may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation. Contributions can be sent to the foundation in support of their valuable work.
Steve will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His kind nature, thoughtfulness, and generosity will be cherished and remembered by his loved ones. May he rest in peace.
