Charlotte Hilgeman Obituary

CHARLOTTE ANN HILGEMAN Charlotte Ann Hilgeman left our earthly world on October 24. She was born on July 7, 1943 to Margaret Eileen (Johnson) Hilgeman Lindsey and Joseph Lawrence Hilgeman, in Sarasota, FL and grew up with her family in Springfield Illinois. She attended San Francisco State College in the early '60's, and in 1976, she volunteered with VISTA. In April of 1986, she purchased the historic Stirling City Hotel and spent the next 30 years making Stirling City her home. She was a tireless volunteer and loved talking to people and interacting with community members and town visitors. Her interests included local history, tourism, jazz, cooking, arts and culture. She was involved with the Stirling City Historical Society and helped establish the town's museum and a tool lending library as well as a community garden. She was the board president of Friends of the Arts Butte County and BCAC.tv. She served on the Butte County Environmental Council, sat on the countywide tourism committee, made an unsuccessful run for county supervisor, and even hosted a special visit from Huell Howser. She shared her love of music with KZFR listeners from the early 90s through 2005 as a regular DJ on the Facets of Jazz show. Charlotte is survived by her brother Carl William Hilgeman, his wife Linda Hilgeman, their children Carin Hilgeman, Janel Hilgeman Murphy, Nikole Hilgeman Adams, Eric Hilgeman; also her nephews Reece Avram, Sean Avram, and Trevor Avram. A Celebration of Life will be held in Charlotte Ann Hilgeman's honor Nov 12 at the Stirling City Community Hall. Everyone is welcome to share your fond memories and join in the potluck, noon to 5pm

I am so saddened to hear that Charlotte passed, I didn't know until the Christmas card that I sent her this year was returned. She fell in love with my grandchildren, Kody Cobb & Brooke White, especially Kody who lived near her for a short time when he was a toddler. My husband Mike has onset Alzheimer's and one day Charlotte came all the way to Susanville to visit us, she sat next to him and visited with him for over an hours. Since his diagnosis he has never talked to anyone more than a few minutes, she truly brought the best out of him. Rest in peace my friends.

Charlotte was a gifted lady. She was a talanted, loving person. Her friendship will be missed. Our Early V8 Club stayed at her Hotel & enjoyed a homemade break fast.

I am so sad to hear about Charlotte's passing. She was a special lady. My fiancé and I spent time a few years back at her B&B and she provided such a relaxing atmosphere. She also was a wonderful cook and spoiled us with many yummy things to eat! She was always there with a smile.

I am sorry for your loss. Such a dedicated lady! May her love give you strength in the days ahead. Psalms 94:19

Charlotte was kind to me while I lived in Stirling City in the old Ranger house.

I was impressed with her easy nature and manner toward everything. We seldom spoke as we were both busy, but everytime we saw each other there was a wave and acknolwdgement of each others presnce.

Stirling City has only gained a spirit in the trees that will look over the city and its inhabitants.

May God grant her eternal peace.
