Doris Horne Obituary

No services are planned for Doris G. Horne, 90, a Paradise resident for 30 years. She died on September 1, 2010, five years after being diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma.

She was born in Norfolk, Virginia in 1919 and moved with her family to the state of Washington in 1939. She married Roy C. Horne (1918-1987) in 1941 and lived in several western states before moving to Chico in 1958.

She lived in Chico from 1958 to 1975, in Paradise from 1975 to 2006, and in Chico for her final four years.

In 1961, she and her husband started the Perfect Plank Co., an Oroville lumber remanufacturing operation that is one of the last remnants of the wood products industry that once flourished in Butte County. The company continues to manufacture a specialty product used in the pattern and model industry, as well as butcher block counter tops and table tops for home and restaurant use.
She was a member of the Business and Professional Women in Chico, and was a charter member of All Thumbs, a women's group in Paradise. She served as the Perfect Plank Co. bookkeeper from 1961 to 1990.

She is survived by her three sons, Jim, Bob and Terry, all of Chico. In addition she leaves nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Her Paradise survivors include her daughter-in law Karen Horne and grandchild Brian C. Horne.

She attended the United Methodist Church while she was a Paradise resident, and her spiritual life was greatly enriched for many years by Pastor and Mrs. Leo Classen of Paradise.

She was a life-long supporter of animals and requested that any remembrances on her behalf be made to the Paradise Animal Shelter Helpers (PASH), PO Box 1021, Paradise, CA 95967.
