David Stewart Obituary

David and Marina Stewart

After years of battling declining health, David Stewart passed peacefully in his Altadena home on April 27, 2014. In the days following David's passing his wife Marina's health began a sudden and unexpected decline. On May 19, 2014 Marina passed quietly in her home as well, only 22 days after her husband. In their final months, as their health deteriorated, David and Marina wanted only to remain in their home, surrounded by family. Thankfully they had their wish. David was born in Johnstone, Scotland on March 11, 1941. He was the youngest of twelve children. Marina was born in Glasgow, Scotland on June 12, 1936. Although they were raised only 13 miles apart their paths would not cross until they were old enough to leave their families and immigrate to Canada in the early 1960's. David and Marina met while working in a plastic manufacturing plant. They were married in Canada in 1962. In 1963, after learning that they were expecting their first child, the young couple moved to Southern California to start their family. Settling first in Pasadena, their small family began to grow. David Jr. was their first son, followed soon after by Malcolm, and finally their daughter Anne. In 1972 David and Marina purchased their first home in Altadena, where they have lived for the last 42 years. David spent more than 20 years working in the garment industry, followed by an additional 20 years working with animals, ending with his retirement from Arroyo Animal Hospital in 2007. Marina's main focus was always her children, but in addition to being an excellent homemaker Marina also worked for many years at Dockum's Research Lab in Altadena. Here she built and maintained close friendships with the women she worked with that have lasted well beyond her retirement. David is survived by four of his eleven siblings, Thomas, John, Elizabeth and Ina. David and Marina are survived by their three children, David Jr., Malcolm, Anne, their spouses, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The memorial service for David and Marina is scheduled at 10:30 am on Saturday, June 21st in the chapel at Mountain View Cemetery, located at 2400 N. Fair Oaks Ave. in Altadena.
