George Stewart Obituary
In Loving Memory of George Clark Stewart Aug. 7, 1932 - Sept. 16, 2009 George passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, September 16th after a valiant battle with cancer. George was born at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena August 7th, 1932. After graduating from Polytechnic School in Pasadena, he went to Andover Academy in Andover Massachusetts, graduating in 1951. He then attended Stanford University, receiving his Bachelor's degr ee in 1955. George was also a member of the varsity tennis teams at both Andover and Stanford. Upon graduation, George was drafted by the United States Army where he was in Morse code operations and he heroically served his country playing on the Army tennis team. After receiving an Honorable Discharge, George attended the University of Southern California, taking graduate classes in business. While at USC, he met and married his wife Babs and remained her devoted husband for 52 years. They moved to San Marino where they raised their two daughters. George and Babs moved to Pasadena in 2002. George's career in the Property Management field began at Caldwell Banker and shortly thereafter, he formed his own company, George C. Stewart & Co. George's lifetime interest in tennis continued, serving as President of the Pasadena Foothill Tennis Patrons Association, a support and fund raising group for youth tennis in the San Gabriel Valley. George and Babs were the first married couple to run the Wretched Wround Wrobin in 1971. George was instrumental in the forming of the San Marino Tennis Foundation in Lacy Park where he also served as President. George's greatest joy was his family and his many friends, especially his fabulous friends in the 20th Century Round Table. In 1962, George was a founding member of the 20th Century Round Table, and over the years, served as President, Social Chairman and Treasurer. George is survived by his wife Babs, daughter Anne Thieling and her husband Jim Thieling, granddaug hters Elizabeth and Jennifer Carpenter, daughter Lisa Kittleman and granddaughter and grandson, Lauren and John Kittleman. Also surviving is George's sister Eleanor Stewart Mazzone from Massachusetts and his seven wonderful Mazzone nieces and nephews. Sevices for George will be held Friday, September 25th, at 10:00 am at the Church of the Recessional, Forest Lawn, Glendale. In lieu of flowers, George requested donations be made in his name to The Huntington Collection of Huntington Hospital - Attn: Linda Stephens, 766 S. Fair Oaks Ave., Pasadena, CA 91105.
