Harold Mills Obituary

Harold C. Mills, 89, of Altadena California, passed away on July 22, 2023 at his home due to Pancreatic Cancer.Harold (Hal) Mills was born on January 13, 1934 in Detroit Michigan to the late Harold and Isabel Mills. He grew up with a younger brother John. As a teen, he loved spending his time playing baseball, golf and fishing. As he got older, he attended Albion College to study Economics. He worked for a local CPA while attending college, which sparked his interest in accounting and led him to later obtaining his CPA license. He was a member of TKE fraternity and held a leadership position for 3 years. After graduation, he worked for Price Waterhouse in Detroit, Michigan. He was drafted to the United States army and served from 7/56 to 6/58 with one year in Saumur, France. After a military discharge, he returned to Price Waterhouse in Detroit and was soon transferred to Price Waterhouse in Los Angeles.During college at Albion, he had a blind date with Barbara Bain for a Delta Zeta sorority dance. They fell in love and were married upon graduation from college in 1956. They had three children, Linda, David, & Sharon. As a family they enjoyed spending time camping and fishing. Hal was extremely kind, witty, friendly, and a charismatic man who was loved by all who knew him. Being a kind dependable father was of the utmost importance to Hal and he certainly did not disappoint when it came to wholeheartedly loving his family. Despite being an executive with major constraints on his time he always made time for his family. Hal lovingly supported his daughters in English horseback riding competition and his son in baseball, golf, and tennis. Hal and Barbara also saved their family by leading them to a relationship with Jesus Christ. They were members of Christ Lutheran Church in West Covina for many years where Hal served as president and on numerous other financial committees for the church. After moving to Glendale in 1991, they joined Hill Avenue Grace Lutheran Church in Pasadena where Hal continued to serve on various financial committees for the church. After Price Waterhouse, Hal also worked for Natec, Great Southwest Corp/Six Flags, and served as Vice President of The Irvine Company. He retired as the Treasurer of the Automobile Club of Southern California in 1996. After retirement Hal and Barb traveled all over the world and enjoyed life to the fullest. Hal loved golf and was a member of Oakmont Country Club in Glendale where he served on the finance committee for years and as president in 2001.In addition to his wife of 67 years, Barbara, and children Linda O'Neill (Douglas), David Mills (Helen), and Sharon Ayers (Chris), Hal is survived by his grandchildren Christopher, Samantha, Jeremy, Chelsea, Malia, Austin, Zachary and great grandchildren Christopher, Molly, Nolan, Asher, and Sutton. He is also survived by his brother John Mills. The memorial service will be held on September 30, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Hill Avenue Grace Lutheran Church, 73 N. Hill Avenue, Pasadena, CA.
