April 30, 1929 - July 26, 2021 Fifty-year San Marino resident Jeanne Walker Cornwell died peacefully on July 26, 2021 in Yorba Linda, Calif. She was 92. Jeanne was born April 30, 1929 in Brawley, Calif., the second daughter of Glenn and Florence Mathers Walker, and grew up in nearby Westmorland. She attended Brawley Union High School and graduated from University of Redlands in 1951 where she was a member of Delta Kappa Psi. She married fellow Redlands graduate Wray Cornwell in 1952, and they moved to Los Altos, Calif. where Jeanne began teaching first grade and Wray attended Stanford Graduate School of Business. A year later they moved to Burbank, then to Altadena in 1958 after the birth of their son Tom. Daughter Kay followed in 1961, and the family relocated to San Marino in 1969. Jeanne was an active volunteer wherever she lived, and served on the University of Redlands alumni board, was president of the Altadena Republican Women's Club and the Friends of the San Marino Public Library, and was active in San Marino PTA, PTSA, and PTAffiliates. She ran the library at San Marino Community Church for many years and also served as a deacon at SMCC. She and Wray were also members of the Friends of the Huntington Library, Alaroma dance club, and were active supporters of The Old Mill Foundation and Huntington Medical Research Institutes. Jeanne and Wray were honored in 2004 by the San Marino Rotary Club as Paul Harris Fellows for their contributions to the community. Jeanne was predeceased by her parents, sister Mary Frances Walker Hendon, and her beloved husband of 66 years, Wray Cornwell. She is survived by son Tom Cornwell, daughter Kay Cornwell Romer (Greg), and grandchildren Ella Cornwell, Laura Romer, Colin Romer, and Glenn Romer. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 28, 2021 at San Marino Community Church, 1750 Virginia Rd., San Marino. In lieu of flowers, donations to the San Marino Community Church Foundation (memo: Library) are welcomed.
